@David Miles undemocratic countries such as Ethiopia are transitioning towards democracy, some have already arrived. There are pockets where corruption has been largely dealt with and over time those pockets will grow. The African Union has taken steps to crack down on corruption in its member states, which is all of Africa. So while a lot of work needs to be done to bring the dark days of the last few decades in Africa to a close it's clear that progress is being made in many parts.

You have to ban foreign imports. There is a lot of dumping that is killing African industries. Dangote, Africa's richest man got so rich in part because Nigeria banned importation of cheaper cement. Most of the wealth Dangote has accumulated would have gone to China without cement ban. Now because of his wealth, Dangote has diversified heavily into other areas, such as agriculture, oil refinery, telecom, port operations, etc.

Traceability is also a serious challenge to know the true origin of the goods coming through close borders. Yes EU countries trade up to 65% within the block however it is easy to trace the origin of the goods and there is also a quota to protect local industries for certain products particularly food dumped on their markets .
@showman76325 жыл бұрын
Traceability of goods will increase as trade increase. Europe also went through the process. The opportunity here is Africa only need to adopt systems in place to improve visibility in its new trade network.
@sheritownsend75255 жыл бұрын
Isn't this a matter of education? Do Africans understand the relationship between trading within the continent and how it benefits their economic status? You reshape mindsets with education. This type of economics can easily be taught in school. Why would anybody have to LET Africa trade with Africa unless Africa has no control over its trade. The governments within the continent should have already figured this out. So what's the REAL stop?
@Deontjie6 жыл бұрын
The lack of infrastructure is not the biggest barrier to intra Africa trade. The corrupt officials at the borders are. And the corrupt government's refusal to tackle this problem. It takes transport truckers more than 5 days to cross the Congo border.

Its about time for African nations to trade with each other cooperatively for mutual advantage and mutual growth (esp with the spread of democracy and international law enforcement)! So much natural wealth and potential over there in the African continent. Exploited for mutual gain by Africans themselves, then Europeans and Americans and Indians etc (not just communist-Chinese) will be trying hard to immigrate to there to live and raise their families. The rise of the Sub-Saharan African continent is at hand over the coming decades and centuries (as the United States of America gradually but increasingly becomes a lawless, impoverished Latin American country without a clearly defined southern border or illegal-immigration enforcement per liberal-socialists/progressive political influence and growth with the extremely rapid Latino-population growth).
