The Irish Guards, is a regiment of the British Army, part of the Guards Division or Household Division.
Their slow march is known as "Let Erin Remember". This tune was performed by The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals.
The lyrics to this song come from a poem by the Irish poet, Thomas Moore (28 May 1779 - 25 February 1852) from his book 'Irish Melodies'.

What a grand tune this is. It commemorates the exploits of Malachy Mor who succeeded to the sovereignty of all Ireland in 978, before his rival Brian Borumbha. He was born in Armagh, and married the daughter of Sitric, the Danish King of Dublin, but later fought and defeated the Danes, carrying off many goodies including jewels (the “collar of gold which he won from her proud invader.”) It harks back to Ireland’s early history, before its entanglement with the English crown and everything that came from that. The Red Branch (as in Red Branch Knights) has its roots in Irish mythology, and the name has been adopted by groups on both sides of the sectarian divide.

I'm still convinced that king Arthurs knights of the round table were based off the irish myth of the legendary knights of the red branch ironically

Lyrics Let Erin remember the days of old Ere her faithless sons betrayed her When Malachy wore the collar of gold That he won from the proud invader When her kings with standards of green unfurled Led the Red Branch Knights to danger Ere the emerald gem of the Western World Was set in the crown of a stranger On Lough Neagh's banks as the fisherman strays In the clear cold eve declining He sees the round towers of other days In the waters 'neath him shining Thus shall memory often in dreams sublime Catch a glimpse of the days that are over Thus sighing, look through the waves of time For the long-faded glories they cover. 🇮🇪

Britannia how little you know about history you silly uneducated working class Englishman

Britannia there is an association between remaining working class all ones life in 2020 and deliberately rejecting education/ academic knowledge you my dear boy demonstrated that reality perfectly by not knowing history and then calling me a bitch. The reality is that the Irish constantly rebelled against British government rule and eventually won their independence, it was not an "occupation " ever tolerated and not fought against. And eventually Irish independence was won. Also your ancestors did not benefit from the loot of the British empire. It was the already wealthy British who became even more wealthy from products of the empire

Britannia working class would not have been an insult back in the past since no one did deliberately not avail of an education. You also know nothing of history, outside of secondary school clearly. And more than likely you dropped out and didn't do well in your A levels

Its fun to see the republican song written by moore being stolen by the brits for their royal guard "The emerald gem of the western world , was set in the crown of a stranger 😪"

We mustn't confuse England with Great Britain/UK. The other Countries are right to demand due respect. They aren't represented on our Standard because they didn't want to be - they've always wanted independance. They just don't generate enough revenue to support themselves.@@charliereader3462
