It's used to make their eyes "sparkle" or become expressive. It's a pretty clever trick the way it's stylized here. I don't recall anything using this trick quite this way. There’s this girl I’ve known practically all my life that I’ve developed a crush for. Exactly last year, on valentines day, I gave her a box of chocolates and told her how I felt about her. She gave the chocolates back near the end of the day. She didn’t say she didn’t want them, just that she “couldn’t take them.” I don’t know what she meant from that to this day. I’m pretty bummed out about how it went, but I feel good that I tried, and I’m happy she knows how I feel. month later edit: I know I’m a bit late but a little bit more context. This girl is Indian, her family is very conservative. I don’t mean american conservative, I mean Indian conservative as in keeping with Indian tradition and culture (I guess that’s pretty similar to american conservative) Bottom line is, I don’t think her parents would have been happy if she came home with a box of chocolates from some rando they barely know. so when she said she “couldn’t take them” she probably meant it in that context. I think the ending would make more sense if the last thing Audrey sang was something like "There's no need to rush, so tell me if you have a crush" And then he yelled "No!" And then the camera panned over and you see Vera in the doorway implying she heard the whole last part, and then she walks away dejected, implying that she was attracted to Victor but now thinks he can't have a crush on her. I think Vera having a crush on Victor is canon, because why else would she be leaving the school when class must be starting soon unless she wanted to approach him? ...But what is the meaning of the money in her hand? As it is, I think the point is that Vera was attracted to Victor but now doesn't like him because she saw him yelling at his sister. She's thinking; "Wow, he's so rude. Not boyfriend material." It shows that Victor's antagonistic nature is getting in the way of being loveable, and the rejection Victor feels is made worse by his realization of that fact. He must feel so ashamed.
