Hi Kathy, I like your diorama, I have my own now provided by mother nature, my railway is '00 gauge' in my garden, under about 2" of snow at the moment. Still working on some form of weather protection for the track which doesn't need taking off before each operating session. I do have plans for a tunnel through a mountain range at the 10 foot diameter return loop as there is a very large Oak tree which covers most of this area and does like to give me rather a lot of leaves and acorns as the seasons change. With regard to the construction of the mountain I am planning to use some expanded polystyrene foam insulation panels covered with plaster cloth and then painted with Cuprinol Garden Shades paint to provide some weather protection, your opinion would be appreciated as scenery is not one of my strong points.
@KathyMillatt4 жыл бұрын
I’m afraid I’ve not done outdoor scenery but I would use outdoor materials and I’m not sure plaster cloth would be strong enough long term. An outdoor plaster layer may be better.
@peterfarrington37024 жыл бұрын
@@KathyMillatt Thanks for the info Kathy, I'll still use the plaster cloth but only as an initial cover for the styrene foam, the finished item will have a good covering of Cuprinal Garden Shades outside paints as they have a good variety of colours which should blend in, "at a distance". Happy New Year to you and stay safe.

Kathy, I need to add a lift-out section to my Kato N scale layout, can you provide any advice, especially regarding the connection?
@KathyMillattАй бұрын
I’ve never done lift out sections I’m afraid. It may depend on what your baseboard is. For Port Dinorwic I used magnets for the fiddle yards and ran the power through those.

beautiful and excellent explanation. I do have one question that can't be seen in the final. With the two layers of grey tint resin then two thin layers added for texture of waves..can you even see the rocky bottom any longer?

Kathy I used a resin and coloured it with acrylic paint. And it made it curdle. Well what I mean is the paint didn’t mix properly. What did I do wrong?
@KathyMillatt4 жыл бұрын
Some resins react badly to the water in acrylic paints. Either try a different resin or use solvent based or resin specific paints.

Here's a question for you Kathy - since I know you've tested just about every snow product out there. What would you recommend for 1/35 scale snow deposits, for when small amounts of snow have accumulated on vehicles and become frozen on..? I'm thinking specifically of slightly sparkly icy snow compacted into tank tracks or small remnants on fenders / in corners...
@KathyMillatt4 жыл бұрын
Precision snow and ice do a snow wash that’s great for that fine layer of snow built up on ridges etc. It’s not glittery but it is effective.
