Let Me See Your TOE! DIY Toe Plates and Wheel Alignment Basics!

Dedicated to Harry 2008-2021.
Today on Bernie Rubbers Garage we are making toe plates to double check my toe settings after I reinstalled the tie rod end. These are quick and easy to make yourself. I used some spare 22ga steel and painted it with left over caliper paint.

the main issue I have when doing this method is which wheel to make the adjustments on. Do i make incremental adjustments on both sides?

In my case I knew which side was out. If you are just trying to adjust a good alignment then make changes to both sides. If you're starting from scratch, then a few tips. Make sure your steering wheel is straight! You can then use the string method (jackstands with strings running from the back tire to the front tire) to get the front tires straight. Then use these plates to actually measure and adjust your toe.

just curious, what kind of quickjack do you have? considering the 7000 because it seems to be reinforced and heavier duty (more of a safety thing) vs. the 5000

It's the 7000. I like knowing it has the higher weight rating and will lift the Silverado if needed.

are you adjusting both driver and passenger side tie rods? what about your steering wheel locked into position? sorry about your furbaby. Rip..

wouldnt it still be possible for it to be aligned but the wheels still be like this / / ? front and back would have the same distance, but how do you get it to not be crab walking

Yes, but in this certain case I knew the drivers side was a good measurement so I only had to adjust the passenger side. That being said, you would do a string alignment by running a string from the rear to the front. One full turn of the toe arm produces a noticeable movement so the string alignment would get the wheels straight, then the toe plates would give you the refinement you would need.

Nice! Would love to see it! Do you have an Instagram? I love the fact the OEM Alcoas are forged so are strong for track use, but I have always thought about changing up the wheels at some point!

This would have been the time to straighten your steering wheel! There's a way to do it but I'm not going to waste my time describing it ¿`_

The steering wheel is straight with the steering column (it has a reference mark). I caused the toe misalignment by not marking the tie rod end accurately enough when removing it. 😅
