insanely awesome ride. I tried a 170 km ride in 29 degrees the other day solo and had to bail. tbh fueling properly is so important I have learnt for long hot rides so I’m glad you mentioned fueling.
@joshkwan4 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching :) The heat can sap your energy very quickly so hydration and also electrolytes are super important. All the best with your rides :)

Nice work on being sunsmart Josh - the guys wearing all black on a hot day are just looking for trouble. It looks good but it just absorbs so much heat. Having a white helmet too is a must. I personally use the cancer council sun sleeves as they have decent UV and breathe decently. Looks like. A great ride!
@joshkwan2 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching the video mate. I try and reapply sunscreen during the ride too. I regret to say that I didn’t take sun safety nearly as seriously until recently. Sometimes it can be a little inconvenient but it’s worthwhile
@AndyTychon2 күн бұрын
@@_powerrranger I’d highly recommend getting skin checks from your GP or a specialist on a regular basis. I was diagnosed with my first skin cancer in my early 30’s, and have friends also diagnosed in their mid 30’s. Any sun damage/exposure you’re getting now, you’ll pay for later in life…..trust me on that one.

Great video as always mate. Weather looked epic. I was actually out on a ride last week on the Mid North Coast and the cicadas were that LOUD they actually triggered the noisy sound environment warning on my Apple Watch…..it was just deafening.
@joshkwan2 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching mate. Someone told me they once used a sound metre and the cicadas were over 100dB That is insane!
@AndyTychon2 күн бұрын
@ I just checked my Apple Watch history, the sound level of the cicadas hit 98db.

keen to hear when and why you are selecting the emonda vs the new madone?
@joshkwan4 күн бұрын
For these longer rides I find the Emonda more comfortable for now. I have it very dialed in to my fit and preferences. I use the Madone for all my weekday rides.

Great ride! Those MAAP Evade long sleeves are GREAT for warm weather. They let all the cool air in, but protect from UV rays. Jealous of the scenery from here in California.

Yea I’m really enjoying them and am thinking of purchasing a few more so I can rotate through them during my weekday rides too. Thanks for watching the videos and have a good new year!

@@joshkwanwith regards to the long sleeves, one thing I’ve been doing is using separate UV cooling sleeves. It won’t help you on the slow climbs, but you can take them off while sitting around in cafes or friend’s houses or whatever the case might be, without having to take your kit off. I don’t wear a cycling kit, I’m more yoga pants and t-shirt girl (I’m not a racer, I’m just a commuter), so I don’t know if this will work for your needs, but it might be something you can try. I’m really glad that you’re looking after your skin. We’re at a very high risk of skin cancer here (particularly me, I’m a Fitzpatrick skin type I and I ride in the very high temperatures of far Western Sydney / Nepean region / Blue Mountains. There’s not much shade in some of the areas I ride in). Please also incorporate a yearly skin check into your health routine if you don’t already. Early detection is key. It’s not comfortable, being that exposed, but nor is having chunks of skin removed in your 40s onward or worse. Good on you, what a great ride!!

great ride, very picturesque; have you noticed, 'all' the big brands, maap, rapha etc, don't' have a UV rating on their clothing. You wonder over time with our Aussie UV what exposure we get, anyway 4 key areas, arms/hands (I use thin arm warmers), (yes cloves), calves and neck, face. Mate has been chasing melanoma on his nose (rode a lot through Asia/AU) so makes you think. keep up the good work.
@joshkwan4 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment mate. I regret to say that I used to be very neglectful of sun protection since I never got sunburnt. In my mind I made the equivalent that without sun burn I was at no risk. The reality is that you are always at risk, and just a little bit of extra time with sunscreen and extra clothes goes a long way. Have a good new year and take care
