I love seeing these dumb challenges! Stripping stuff back to basics in a world of over the top sponsored content is refreshing and so much more relatable and achievable. With regards to the bikes, I've been riding mainly single speed bikes for years. The first half a dozen rides on one after being used to gears it sucks, then one day it clicks and suddenly it all makes sense. The best way I can describe it is that now you aim for a constant pressure on the pedals, and pace yourself the same way you would if you were walking up a long staircase. I like it for the flow state, and for the weird looks I get, and for the fact that I get free badass points, so even if I'm slow people still think I'm kinda hardcore. And yes sometimes it's too steep and I have to get off and walk, but by that point anyone still riding their bike is going slower than I can hike anyway! The Netherlands is ideal single speed terrain, and I actually went to the European single speed mountain bike championships there once, where I was overtaken up a hill by a man in a cardboard Optimus Prime costume.
@unknownpresence1669Ай бұрын
Loving this one. I think you should fix the bikes up, ride them the entire journey back out to Amsterdam and gift them back to the shop to re sell, or to someone who could really use it. But this instead of the hook of holland ferry, you take the dover to calais route and ride that journey. Im actually planning this for mental health month in May next year if you 2 would like to join a few of us.
