The guy that owned Oakland boat dock on Bull Shoals would tune your Rogue to suspend for $5. He wrapped solder on the hooks too! Many of the tackle shops here in St Louis and down around those lakes sold little spools a solder. The good old days

My dad never did the cheesy solder route. He drilled out rouges and added usually 21 buckshot and seal the hole with silicone. Then try them in the tub to see if they worked. This was between 1979 and 1982.

I would have nominated Jim Bitter. I fished with him on Lake Griffin we caught over 100 bass. He slaughtered them. It was like a catching machine. Learned a lot that day.

It would be impossible to call someone the greatest if you never got a chance to Actually see them fish. Either in person or on tv with lots of views

At the very least, this legend's technique suggests some real benefit to legit pauses in cadence... especially in Winter. Thanks for sharing, Randy.

I like these videos. In the early 80’s I destroyed so many baits trying to get them to suspend. I may not agree that he is the greatest jerkbait fisherman ever. But contributions to the technique can’t be denied.

I fished with Jim Bitter on the Mississippi River in 1991 BASS Invitational. We fished my fish and he never threw the jerk bait. My Buzzbait pattern had me in the top 10 on day one when we fished. Missed opportunity, he was a great guy to fish with. Always love the history videos!

I love these videos about the history of bass fishing keep them coming I have to admit though I kind of threw up a little bit in the back of my mouth when you told the part where he filled out all these Giants. It's so sad to think about we knew so little about conservation back in the '60s and '70s and '80s my uncle fished religiously bass fished on lake success out in California in the '70s and '80s and 90s and back then like you said that's when the heyday of fishing was going on I mean you can catch these bass on damn near anything and they caught Giants all the time unfortunately a lot of them got put in the frying pan my uncle didn't start practicing catching release until about the mid 80s and to this day he regrets a lot of the big six and seven and eight pounders that they ate back in the day...

Great stuff Randy! I started spoon bill rebel fishing about 1983. The method I first heard of was a long sweep of the rod. Reel up slack and do it again. By 84 we were weighting the hooks cranking those baits into standing timber then pausing. Let the fun begin!

I have a question about your lake breakdowns on FTM. If a lake goes through a winter drawdown of 7-8 ft, is that taken into account in your breakdown?

Gary Dobyns was considered the best. He is the most winniest on the West if I remember correctly. KVD cannot be the best as he always be losing fish on jerkbaits. Hank didn't design the Stunna correctly. Table Rock fishing is probably deemed a joke by Western fishers, so my pick is the clear winner.

Randy how would a lake map breakdown like the Atchafalaya Basin work,, due to its vastness how would it be approached? I’m very interested in getting a breakdown of the basin and spillway I just don’t see logically how you all can break down such a vast area
