CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Moses (Charlton Heston) goes to the court of the Pharaoh (Yul Brynner) demanding he let his people go. Moses turns his sceptre into a serpent, which swallows the serpents of the Pharaoh.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the Holy Scriptures, with additional dialogue by several other hands, The Ten Commandments was the last film directed by Cecil B. DeMille. The story relates the life of Moses, from the time he was discovered in the bullrushes as an infant by the pharoah's daughter, to his long, hard struggle to free the Hebrews from their slavery at the hands of the Egyptians. Moses (Charlton Heston) starts out "in solid" as Pharoah's adopted son (and a whiz at designing pyramids, dispensing such construction-site advice as "Blood makes poor mortar"), but when he discovers his true Hebrew heritage, he attempts to make life easier for his people. Banished by his jealous half-brother Rameses (Yul Brynner), Moses returns fully bearded to Pharoah's court, warning that he's had a message from God and that the Egyptians had better free the Hebrews post-haste if they know what's good for them. Only after the Deadly Plagues have decimated Egypt does Rameses give in. As the Hebrews reach the Red Sea, they discover that Rameses has gone back on his word and plans to have them all killed. But Moses rescues his people with a little Divine legerdemain by parting the Seas. Later, Moses is again confronted by God on Mt. Sinai, who delivers unto him the Ten Commandments. Meanwhile, the Hebrews, led by the duplicitous Dathan (Edward G. Robinson), are forgetting their religion and behaving like libertines. "Where's your Moses now?" brays Dathan in the manner of a Lower East Side gangster. He soon finds out. DeMille's The Ten Commandments may not be the most subtle and sophisticated entertainment ever concocted, but it tells its story with a clarity and vitality that few Biblical scholars have ever been able to duplicate. It is very likely the most eventful 219 minutes ever recorded to film--and who's to say that Nefertiri (Anne Baxter) didn't make speeches like, "Oh, Moses, Moses, you splendid, stubborn, adorable fool"?

This old movie is still a special effects juggernaut, years ahead of other movies of its time. Even the effects that they could not achieve on screen (like Moses's cobra swallowing the others) is convincingly conveyed by the other actors' reactions, which are all the more impressive simply because they are, in essence, 'reacting' to something they could not even see, during filming.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” ~ John 3:16 Jesus is God! Only Jesus saves! Discover the truth for yourself by reading the book of John in the New Testament with an open mind. Take a good look at the world around you today. Normal is not coming back but Jesus is. The Bible is the true written word of God. It accurately predicted the times we’re living in right now two thousand years ago. Don’t believe me? Read Matthew 24:4-8. What it says there could be pulled from today’s headlines. Today is the day of salvation! Just believe what it says in John 3:16. No one is promised tomorrow. ⏳

THIS is the definitive Exodus picture. I saw this in the movies in 1956 and it is still one of my favorite movies. Should have never been remade after this. In fact, to really appreciate it, the studio should release it in theaters again (it was re-released in the 70s or 80s...I forget which...but my mother and I went to see it again). The details and colors are gorgeous. Yeah, some of the performances are campy (Anne Baxter) but who could beat Yul Brynner's performance as Pharaoh? One sexy man. And Charlton Heston as Moses???!! Totally the best. And for no CGI, the special effects are awesome. Definitely worth seeing.

Nobody can out due Charlton Heston in the role of Moses. He possessed a natural greatness - a charisma - that drew you into the character. When he spoke, he sounded authoritative, like when he spoke, you would do well to listen to what he had to say. Val Kilmer sounded like an average man, who fell into his role as a leader. Yet his voice conveyed a warmth and kindness to the character, which was quite appealing. Like even of you weren't necessarily sure of his leadership capabilities, you could definitely tell that he cared about the people he was leading. it's to bad they didn't do a sequel to the Prince Of Egypt, one that would tell the story of Moses and the Hebrews wandering through the desert for four decades. Christian Bale lacks that authoritative quality, that Heston had, and the warmth that Kilmer had. And with what Ridley Scott did with both story of Exodus, and the character of Moses, it was quite possibly the worst film of all time.
@Scripture-Man
@Scripture-Man 5 жыл бұрын
Your comment sums up everything that is WRONG with this disgraceful movie! Moses is SUPPOSED to be a weak, feeble, ordinary man, with no charisma. That's the whole POINT! The Bible says that Moses was a bad talker, with no eloquence, and he had a speech impediment. The Bible says he was the meekest and most humble man on earth. The WHOLE POINT of Exodus is that God took a SMALL, ordinary man with no charisma and did great things through Him - showing GOD'S power, not man's. But in direct contrast, this crass movie disgraces the Book of Exodus by turning everything on its head and making MOSES a big, imposing, charismatic figure, leaving the viewer to conclude that Moses was a man of power and influence, and God was merely helping out in the background. I find it quite tragic that this movie is so highly esteemed, especially by Christians. For the record, I've never seen it, or any of the other such Bible movies. I avoid such things as they contaminate and distort one's understanding of Scripture. You will watch a movie with added lines and forget which lines are actually true, and which are fiction. The only Biblical movie I recommend is The Visual Bible: Gospel of John, which I think is quite good. Most other Bible films I've seen are utterly horrible, and clearly not made by genuine Christians.

I know one rabbi who reads Moses as having cerebral palsy (and being stymied more by others' refusal to listen than by not having leadership skills), and I think it'd be neat to see an Exodus movie that goes all-in on that. Call it "Slow of Speech". Build the whole thematic throughline around it -- "people don't listen enough".
@Scripture-Man
@Scripture-Man 5 жыл бұрын
@@IZEASGT That sounds much more like the real Moses. People were always questioning his authority, and that's likely because he just didn't look and speak like some great leader. I don't think Moses had cerebral palsy, but I can imagine him perhaps being what we might call autistic, or having a stammer. A shy, awkward man who is not socially fluent. That's my kind of hero, because it shows that ANYONE can be a hero, enabled by the Spirit of God :) In God's Kingdom, even scum like me could potentially be a hero! :)

🧾THE GOSPEL OF THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD "the last age in which God saves man from the destruction of this old world" (Since God becomes flesh, He must reveal the work He must do, and since God became flesh, He must reveal what He is, and be able to bring the truth to man, give life to man, and show man the way. To investigate whether it is the flesh of God incarnate, man must know it from the disposition He expresses and the words He utters. And thus, in knowing whether it is the flesh of God Incarnate the key is to pay attention to His substance (His work, His words, His disposition, and so much more), rather than the outward appearance. Isn't the outward appearance of Jesus is contrary to human understandings? Didn't His appearance and clothing give any clue as to His true identity? Wasn't the reason why the earliest Pharisees opposed Jesus was because t they only looked at His outward appearance, and did not take to heart the words He spoke? You must not become modern-day Pharisees and crucify God again. You must carefully consider how to welcome God's return, and must have a clear mind on how to be a person who submits to the truth. This is the responsibility of everyone who is waiting for Jesus to return with the clouds.) Almighty God said He who is the INCARNATION of GOD WILL HAVE the substance of GOD, and He who is the INCARNATION of GOD will have the MANIFESTATION of GOD. Since God becomes flesh, He must REVEAL the WORK He must DO, and since God became flesh, He must reveal what He is, and be able to bring the truth to man, give man life, and show man the way . Flesh that does not HAVE the substance of God is certainly not GOD INCARNATE here there is no doubt. To investigate whether it is the flesh of God incarnate, the person must aluminum it from the disposition He expresses and the words He utters. That is to say, whether or not this is the flesh of God incarnate, and whether or not this is the true way, must be judged from His substance. And so, in knowing whether this is the flesh of God incarnate the key is to pay attention to His substance (His work, His words, His disposition, and much more), rather than to external appearance. ☀️ If people only see His external appearance, and ignore His substance, then that shows the ignorance and naivety of man. Substance is not known by external appearance; moreover, God's work never conforms to human understandings.☀️ Isn't the EXTERNAL APPEARANCE of JESUS contrary to human understandings? Doesn't His APPEARANCE and DRESS NOT GIVE ANY SIGN as to His REAL identity?🙏 Isn't the reason why the very first Pharisees oppose JESUS is because they only LOOKED at His EXTERNAL APPEARANCE, and did NOT take to heart the WORDS He SAW? ☀️🙏 It is my HOPE that the BROTHERS and SISTERS WHO ARE LOOKING for the APPEARANCE of GOD and WILL NOT REPEAT the TRAGEDY of HISTORY.🙏 You must NOT BE a MODERN AGE Pharisee and CRUCIFY GOD again. ☀️🙏 You must carefully consider how to welcome GOD'S RETURN, and must have a CLEAR MIND on how to be a PERSON WHO OBSERVES the TRUTH. This is the responsibility of everyone who is WAITING for JESUS to RETURN with the CLOUDS. ☀️ We must rub our spiritual eyes, and must not fall prey to words full of flights and imaginations. We must think about the practical WORK of GOD, and must see the REAL side of GOD. Do not send or lose yourselves in daydreams, always looking forward to the day when the Lord Jesus will suddenly appear from the clouds to take you who have never known Him nor seen Him, and do not know if how to do His will. Better to think about practical lives! From "Foreword" Fulfillment of "When I looked up, someone handed me a book wrapped in a scroll. I opened it and I read on both sides the prayers, sorrows, and curses." (Ezekiel 2:9-10). ... "His garment was stained with blood. He was called the "Word of God" (Rev.19:13). The kingdom He brought down and set up in the highest in the sky so that it can occupy His creation in the universe and engrave on it the entirety of His Holy name "THE CHURCH OF ALMIGHTY GOD" 💐 fulfillment of (Mat. 16:18) "And I say as for you, you are Peter, on top of this rock I will build my Church, that even the power of death will not prevail over it.". ... and "The Letter to the Church in Philadelphia" (Rev. 3:7-13). ... And fulfillment of "The New Jerusalem" 💫 "The Spirit enveloped me, and the angel led me to the top of a very high mountain. He showed Me Jerusalem, the Holy City, coming down from heaven from God." (Rev. 3:7-13). ... " For the time has come in the house of God for the beginning of judgment in the house of God." (1 Peter 4:17). ... It is fulfilled that God Himself is our Pastor in (Rev. 7:17) 💐 "For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their PASTOR. He will lead them to springs of life-giving water; and God will wipe the tears from their eyes" 📩 Calling and leading the sheep of God to His glorious Throne "THE CHURCH OF ALMIGHTY GOD"💐 to submit again to His authority so that He will continue to teach, guide and protect even in plague, famine and wild animals will not be moved by it and completely win this final battle with the big red dragon! "They say with a loud voice, "Salvation comes from the Lamb, and from our God who sits on the Throne!" (Rev. 7:10). ... and it will be fulfilled that will be established above the sky/KZbin in (Isaiah 2: 2 / 9:6) "On the Last Day, the mountain on which Jehovah's temple stands will stand out above all the mountains. To the secular world this may be the "greatest movie ever made", and I hope people have had fun at our expense. However, for Christians and Jews, this film is deeply offensive. It makes a mockery of people and events in the Bible that we hold as sacred. It totally changes what happened in the Bible and places lies into the mouth of God.

Moses' God still lives. He always will. He will return and give folks the ultimate show. Removing all that's wicked. Raising the dead and the judgment of all people will begin. God also will restore this earth 🌏 and people back to his original purpose. I truly believe in this biblical account. And I believe in the God of Moses. I definitely plan to draw closer to him in the 2020.
