Let’s argue: the total drama theme song is the perfect representation of the 2000’s pop punk era and is a better example than any song MGK can try to make today.

One thing I miss about TDE is how connected I used to feel to them as a fan overseas. Before 2014-ish, we used to get a lot more vlogs, free music, and freestyles when they were on the come up. As someone who can't go to shows, it helped make up for that. But I understand we'll never get back to that, but I think this take is a bit over-reactionary. Their roster is so talented, and the label has high expectations and a standard they will continue to deliver.

Hey Anthony! I'm one of the people who helped shape the Vapor tree on RYM and I wanted to answer some questions and shed some light on why it exists. First off - we didn't invent the term vapor. It's never been a massively popular term, but it is a term that has been used to mean what we say it means by a decent amount of people for a long time. Just wanted to make that clear right off the bat. Anyways, as far as WHY it's a thing - it's a consequence of RYM's genre system. RYM's genre tree isn't just a map of genres, but specifically a functional system of parentage where genres that are listed as subgenres of another show up on charts and in catalogs as part of that genre. As such, genres HAVE to also be their parent genre in at least the vast vast vast majority of cases. This has led to problems, particularly with regard to the placement of genres likes utopian Virtual, dreampunk, and future funk. These are genres that a lot of people would not call vaporwave (the genre), despite being part of vaporwave (the community). In order to avoid being in endless limbo with arguments over where to place these genres (arguments that only exist because of the inherent flaws of RYM's genre system), we created a functional workaround that would allow us to still represent the wider vaporwave that encompasses all the stuff that comes from that community and feature the broad characteristics of vaporwave. We're not trying to redefine the name of vaporwave or anything like that, we're just reflecting a real split in the usage of the term that we need to address in order for the site to function as intended. We don't even treat it as a regular genre, but rather as a metagenre, a largely functional tag solely created to correct for this dissonance. This is actually something we've done several times! Another prominent of a metagenre we use as a workaround for tree issues is Hardcore [Punk], a meta added to differentiate between hardcore Punk vs the wider hardcore sphere, created to solve an issue where people wouldn't allow melodic metalcore to be listed under metalcore because metalcore was listed as a hardcore punk genre, but wouldn't allow metalcore to be moved out of hardcore punk, and to give a home to genres like trancecore that otherwise don't really have a good point. We've even been considering adding a Gothic Music meta for a while to solve an issue where the entire Darkwave tree is in parentless limbo and as a result totally inaccessible from the tree. Again, none of these are terms or groupings we invented. These are all real concepts that we've been able to source usage for. They just only exist on the tree because RYM has a weird, inherently flawed genre system that requires us to come up with weird workarounds like this so that things function somewhat properly and we don't have genres getting stonewalled in the queue forever over silly parentage arguments. Hope you have a great day!

I… disagree. He played his ass off, you could feel the emotion and (possibly) anger in the playing, much like how Kendrick rapped his ass off on “u.”. The beautiful bombastic feeling in the playing gets your attention immediately, and feels intense. If you’re hearing this bass solo without headphones, you can feel the ground shaking and makes you feel intimidated by the threatening aura of the bass, much like biggie on “gimme the loot”. It triggers your fight or flight instincts, but as you see thicchany boytano’s warm and breathtaking face, it calms you down. This bass solo puts you in a rollercoaster of emotions, and as the bass solo concludes, it has a final shout, and throws beautiful, yet in intense notes at you. When the solo concluded, I lied down, and thought about what I just heard, in a good way

When a TDE album releases, you should always expect critical acclaim, but lately projects like Q’s Crash Talk and Reasons albums came and went. Kendrick has been silent, Ab-Soul and SZA haven’t released an album in 4+ years and the other non-Black Hippy artists don’t have a big enough name for people to really care with the exception of SiR who is a quality artist. Yes TDE takes a long time to drop albums and yes this can be frustrating. But only because we love what they do. Here’s the thing though when you grow up and understand that these people aren’t your puppets for entertainment and actually real life people you’ll maybe lay off a little more. Everyone was on Zays ass about dropping an album but finally learned that he was going through rehab or whatever. That’s a perfect example of what I mean. We don’t know them personally and we don’t know what’s going on in their lives. Maybe Kendrick hasn’t dropped because he decided he wanted to lay low and take care of his babies and actually be around to raise them. Going on tours and being a “rapper” will take that away from him no doubt. These are the things you have to consider when people don’t drop for years. Maybe take a step back and think that they are real people going through real things. Being a “rapper” isn’t the most important thing to them anymore. They have families and that’s the most important thing. Just be a fan and wait patiently. However long that may take. 2y, 5y, 10y or maybe even never just be grateful for what their music has done for you. When they drop you’ll be there to listen.

A point about fadeouts is that they're also great for enforcing musical refrains and choruses - it's a good way of creating the illusion of an endless, continued refrain in the likes of "God Only Knows" or "Hey Jude" that sort of invite you to keep these codas in mind even as the same, well, fades out. It only really comes across as lazy when there isn't anything to enforce in the fadeout and it feels as though the song is ending before reaching a satisfying climax - but I can't for the life of me think of many examples where such a thing happens either.
