Welcome to my video series "Let's Build a Graflex". This is part 3 of my tutorial series on assembling and installing electronics in a Graflex 2.0 Lightsaber hilt. In this video I demonstrate and explain in detail all of the steps required to modify your original 7/8" inner core so that it can retain the .88" LED heat sink as well as the G.O.T.H. 3Designs "Knight" chassis".
Unfortunately due to the size, I am unable to list all of the parts and tools in the description box. But don't worry!! I have gone ahead and created a thread on FX-sabers.com were you can find it, just follow the link!!:

I really appreciate that you know enough about your camera to get the auto focus to adjust when showing us something tiny or up close. I can't begin to count how many tutorials I've watched where someone's bringing something up to the lens but never get the focus to adjust right and I can't see at all what they're doing.

+Ryusui I'm the same way. I've watched a LOT of tutorials and I tried to learn from their mistakes. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to see a tiny little detail that may be incredibly important yet the guy filming doesn't let it focus. Drives me nuts lol.

thx, I got it easily done with your help. Note that the 2.5 has a different core, which makes this step even easier. Also the Goth 3D chassis is slightly different now, being adapted to the 2.5 version and also making the whole process a bit easier and more neat.

Hi again, I just got the 1st of the "new batch" scratch and dent of the graflex 3.0 kits from korbanth directly. The inner grenade section core now includes a cutout in the lower threading so no hole is needed to be drilled for the clamp switch wiring. Also, there are two already drilled and tapped 10-32 set screw holes ( one appears to be for the heatsink module and the other is on the back side, center grenade section to screw down the goth 3d chassis) in the new batch. You can still drill and tap your own(which I did anyway) but it is no longer necessary. In addition, Darth Ryo has slightly modified the knight chassis part #1- it is only a very slight modification. The bottom tenth of the battery holder section is now thickened to take advantage of another pre drilled and tapped set screw hole(which I forgot to mention previously) in the bottom threading of the grenade section of the 3.0 kit. Again, you can still use every instruction and step in these videos and they will work perfectly, but you no longer absolutely have to.

use the 3m bonding tape to add 1/2 inch rubber to the aluminum softeners on your vice. they'll be soft and parts wont slide around. Awesome build man!

This is the best tutorial out there. I would love it if you could do an MPP 2.0 build tutorial with the GOTH 3D printed chassis (Sith Master, crystal reveal)

Hello, can I ask the clamp/aux screw size? You said 1/16, is that the allen size or the thread size? Sorry for what may seem like a simple question but I use metric so am unfamiliar with imperial. Thank you.

Great video. Why is does the blade holder have threads at the bottom?
@EastCoastSabers

On the Graflex 2.0 the lower half screws onto the inner core, rather than both the upper and lower halves being connected by the clamp like a vintage.

what additional work has to be done if you want to use the TCSS Graflex 2.0 1" blade holder? besides the aux switch fix. and thank you for taking the time to make these videos. I have been reading a lot and learning as much as I could and after I decided to build the Graflex your videos make it look so much easier than it seems. so Thank You Sir.

no extra work. just make sure you get the appropriate chassis and LED heatsink that are designed for 1". Everything else is the same.

This is a great series. I was wondering about the beer tab. My understanding is that the screen version does not have the little angle step in it near the screw yet the Graflex 2.0 kit does. Can one easily flatten the tab in the Graflex 2.0 without mis-aligning the thing?
@EastCoastSabers
@EastCoastSabers 8 жыл бұрын
It can be done yes. I've seen people put them in a vice to flatten them and it seems to work fine.

I'm a little confused: on the previous video you mentioned that unscrewing the back half could scratch the top of the bottom part, but here you unscrewed it very easily. Did I miss something? Thanks!

Just a heads up, my 2.0 came with a screw hole on the side of the grenade section already drilled and tapped. There's also a slot for the wires for clamp card activation.

Yes, The new "2.1's" (as we're calling them) come with a few holes pre-drilled. The problem is the chassis retention hole is too small for the 8-32 set screws I prefer to use, so I drill them bigger and re-tap them. Also, if you're planning on using a Goth3Design Knight chassis The LED retention hole is far too low. A new one has to be drilled and tapped further up.

+Matthew Gibson Well, Korbanth has a new supply of them coming in the next couple of weeks, but I believe those are spoken for. You can contact him and see if he has any left in his small June order, or you can try and snag one from thecustomsabershop.com when they restock in a few weeks as well.

for anyone looking for a rather cheap way to remove the brass pins: Goth 3D Print also sells a 3d-printed removal tool for around 4€.

Sorry for the late response man, but if you click on the link in the description box it will take you to my complete parts and tools list. There I provide the link for the RPF forum thread for the gentleman selling them. Simply message him and let him know you want one. Another option is there are a couple of different styled available on Shapeways.com Just do a search for Graflex and you'll find some parts listed as clamp switch holders.

where can I get a graflex for cheap lol
@EastCoastSabers
@EastCoastSabers 8 жыл бұрын
It depends on your definition of cheap. You can get a Graflex 2.0 kit from TheCustomSaberShop.com for roughly $200. Keep in mind these are empty kits but it makes for a decent shelf queen. If you want electronics, even without a crystal chamber you're looking at $400-$500.
