I was surprised how well the side pieces bent to shape without distortion. Well done.

Looking REAL good, Al! I agree with you on how much of a mess JB Weld can be. You can't deny how well it works, but it's still a mess to clean up after.

Thank you for this video. Its motivation and a clear plan on how to build a hatch. I built my teardrop about 5 years ago and used only scrap/recycled materials. I never did go back and properly trim my hatch out and now it's rotted enough to warrant building a new one. I will definitely trim it out like you did this time.

Very nice video! The trim on that hatch really makes it very professional. I like all the little screws you put in. It is fascinating to learn how all this work with forming radius is done. Amazing how easily that aluminum trim bends around the curves. The case for never having too many clamps is made clearly here. I think you may have earned a new nickname for yourself of Oregon CLAMPman. For some reason I was expecting the little corner pieces to be placed on the top side rather than on the underside as you did.

LOL... ClampMan! Good one! Thanks T455, good to hear from ya! :)

Hi Al, how did you trim the length of the side pieces after you already installed it with sealant?
@OregonBatman2 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan... I cut and dry fitted all pieces before I installed it. Fit the pieces, marked and cut the corners, drilled holes, then removed and added sealant. Fastened it down.

Got those little brackets from Oregon Trail'R... they make Teardrops here in Oregon. They do stiffen those corners right up! oregontrailer.net/shop/miter-braces/

Great video as always! Was that a carbide tipped blade in your miter saw you used to cut the aluminum trim? Do you use the same blade to cut the other wood pieces? Also, was wondering how heavy this trailer will be when completed... I have a 1,000 lb limit on any build as would be towing mine with a Honda Accord... Newbie here. Thanks again for all you do!!
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! Not a carbide tip... the aluminum is pretty soft and easy to cut. I use the same blade to cut the aluminum as I do the wood until the blade dulls out and can't cut wood any longer. Try to make things last as long as I can! Guessing my trailer to come in at around 1000 pounds plus... My frame is a little on the heavy side! Glad to have you follow along! Thank you so much for watching!

That turned out great! My daughter's aluminum trim is sitting there, waiting for us to go do something about it. Where did you get those corner tabs?! That is a very nice touch!

Thanks Eli! Glad to see you back! Thought for sure you guys had that camper finished and was distancing yourself out in the wild! :) Got those little brackets from Oregon Trail'R... they make Teardrops here in Oregon. They do stiffen those corners right up!

Oh, we're definitely ready to jump in our respective campers and get OUT OF HERE... just waiting on the region to declare that campgrounds are "essential" or whatever buzzword they are using now. Quite seriously - the hatch trim, gas struts, locking hardware, and a deep cycle battery are all that we have left to do. She will be enjoying it soon! Thanks for posting the source for the corner brackets, I'll ask to order a couple myself! They look great and definitely serve their purpose!

@@OregonBatman I got the corner tabs ordered this morning! Thanks again for everything you post! Now I just have to find how how to motivate the Great North American Sloth-Teenager to finish her teardrop!

Are you putting any sealant between the flashing and the wood?

Hi DeNae! I used ProFlex on top of filon then trim installed. I didn’t add sealant on inside hatch against wood

Hi, first off awesome build and videos. I have used some many pointers in your videos. THANKS Question I’m looking to buy the t mold you used on the hatch and looked at vintage but the t mold looks allot smaller then you used. Can you tell me if this is the right trim. The overall with of the trim is 1 1/4” which only has 3/4” overhang to the outside of the hatch.
@Andyades4 жыл бұрын
What screw length did you use for the outside trim?
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy! To attach the 2" wide T-Molding, I used number 6 x 3/4" screws. Added Proflex to the trim before attaching. Screw attachment is approximately 3" apart all the way around.
@Andyades4 жыл бұрын
OregonBatman thanks! I saw you did the 3M tape on the hurricane hinge. If you did it again, would you do the tape under the T-Molding too?
@OregonBatman4 жыл бұрын
@@Andyades I would consider using the tape but with the thinner style. The tape I used was a bit thick and would have raised the trim a little higher than I would have liked to fasten to the hatch. Good stuff though... Thanks!
