Great work, but you just need to switch to metric. It is way more accurate and is understood worldwide. There is no reason to remain in the dark ages with the imperial system. The entire auto industry and these vans included are all metric anyway.

Looks beautiful and professionally done. But my concern would be on the placement of the axle. It looks kinda far to the rear. That is great for trailing and you won't get any fishtailing but it increases the tonque weight. At overland trailers they recommend a 60% setback from the front. What's your or anybody's thought on this.
@OregonBatmanАй бұрын
Good observation... I used the two thirds rule for the frame and axle placement. The trailer weighed in at 1000 pounds, so a good tongue weight would be 10 to 15 percent (100 to 150 pounds). My tongue weight was right around 170 pounds (with battery in front). Once you load the galley and refigerator, put gear in the cabin (to the rear), propane tank behind the wheels, you have no excessive tongue weight. I think it was the optimal placement and tows straight. Had no bounce towing behind my Jeep with a 2000 pound tow limit. Appreciate the comment and thank you for checking out the video!

I know this video is 4 years old but I have a question..at around the 15 minute mark you show that your ribs and sides seem to be even. With the trim pieces installed there is a gap underneath the rib side of your T channel on the hatch. I know you would put your plywood on and then your exterior skin but was this enough to raise the T channel and provide sufficient room to close against the seal. I am at this exact point in my build and would appreciate your input. Thanks
@OregonBatmanАй бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video! Once the skins were installed and the offset huricane hinge, there was good clearance for the seal. Installed seal in the trim as well as under the aluminum t-channel. Definitely made for a watertight seal! Thanks again!

Do the fans cool your van down? Or would you need to put an ac in the back?
@OregonBatman2 ай бұрын
The fans provide a strong cross breeze... bringing in the ambient temperature from outside, it doesn't actually cool the van down. If you are wanting to cool the van, I would suggest an A/C. Thanks for checking the video out!

So thankful for your videos. I’m think I’m just a few weeks away from being finished. 3+ years after starting….one question, when you lay the profiles down, do you leave a small gap between the tape and the trim? Or did the tape somehow pull out of the profiles?

Hey there @claytonsaunders3177 !! Thank you for watching, and congratulation on your build, you'll be on the road in no time! I left a small gap between the trim and the tape, so when I sealed the sides with proflex, I had a nice clean look when I peeled the tape. Thanks again, AL

Could you have used adhesive + self-tapping screws?
@OregonBatman3 ай бұрын
Absolutely... a lot of builders use that method. I am more concerned that over time with the vibrations that the van experiences, the screws will loosen and a good bump will cause the adhesive to come loose, then you will have to do major repairs. I am confident, this build will not fall apart!

The only hole I want in my van is the one I HAD TO MAKE to install a fan / AC unit. Extra holes ruin the resale of a CARGO van whenever the time comes to convert it back. It's refreshing to find someone who created a workable and practical solution instead of just drilling another hole in the van like everyone else does.

I noticed that you cut through a stud. Do you not have to worry about putting a sill plate in when using rv windows? I have only ever done them in houses.
@OregonBatman3 ай бұрын
The window is close to the rear corner which has a substantial amount of aluminum, and the cabinet on the other side of the window also adds to any support needed. There is no load on the roof, so no pressure pushing down. The walls also add support as they are fastened to the frame members throughout. No sill plate needed

Batman, how far is your hatch spar( the spar that you attach your hatch hinge to) from the bottom of the galley when closed? 48"? The width of the ply? I know that some TD builders want a bigger size hatch and dont mind using more than one luan plywood instead of one 48" wide luan.

Oregon doesn't require trailer brakes... and most states require a braking system if trailer is above 3000 lbs dry weight. No way would I add an extra 1000 lbs to the 2000 lb trailer. I could have gone with a 6000 lb axle, but that would have been really stiff! :)
