So it's been a while since the first video I made about building a generative patch, and so many things have changed since so I thought maybe it's a good idea to have a new take on this concept.

my friends hear me watching your tutorials quite often and it's now a running joke to occasionally go "ooh yess" or "hey there guiiiise" in that way that you do and when my best friend has to dial in his guitar amp tone he likes to say "ok, time to make it squEEal" like how you did it in the Rampage video and I dunno what my point was anymore but tl;dr your voice is iconic and extremely memeworthy and your tutorials are second-to-none thank you for your hard work and keep doin what u doin

Cheers Omri! Been spending some time watching and re-watching this vid and your video on the Chebyshev VCO. Both videos have MANY great ideas for generative music. I've combined some parts of both videos and it's very pleasing. The S&H/LLFO combo is a great idea for producing a melody that varies in speed like a real person does. Very nice. I made my own version of the varying clock and I gotta say I'm getting both an appreciation and education of S&H in general. The Gray Code module is brilliant (leave it to a programmer to come up with this, especially since the original ideas came from the 1940's!) The Walk module is also stoking my imagination. Jeez dude you provide so many ideas and possibilities it is overwhelming! Merrie Xmas!

I knew about Gray codes but I hadn't thought of using them for a generative patch. Nice idea! I have been creating wavetables for the Pigments synth using lots of mathematical functions I wrote in Java, and Gray codes came up when I was making binary waveforms for chiptune style sounds. I love all this stuff so much!

Hey! Love your videos - been going through a few of these older ones to try and learn generative patches. Some of the modules are no longer around, so I have been trying to replace the quantizer in this with Lazy Susan and Re-trig with CV 2 T, but not getting very good results and not sure how to fix.. any tips on updating this for modules that are no longer around?
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks so much! I will slowly go back to older videos and update the patches, but for now, I would recommend using 4 Quantum quantizers from ML. That way, you have also the gate/trig out built in. If you want and know how polyphony works, you can use one Quantum, and merge\split the signals to and from it.That way you only have to use 1 instead of 4. Let me know if it works for you!

Don't get me wrong all of the patch is great, but, there is something really special about the sound at 17:37 that sparks an other worldly palette of imagination in my mind. Would you by chance be kind enough to elaborate on that specific sound a little more please and show us how we could make that kind of ambient sound ' playable ' via midi CV ?? I'm sure many of us would be eternally grateful for that
@OmriCohen-Music

Hey, thanks! Yeah, that's Clouds... It's a beautiful module... What you can do is instead of using the NoteSeq, just plug in your keyboard and play this voice. All you really need is a polyphonic oscillator, like the Wave for example, and Clouds in granular mode. I have a few videos about Clouds if you want you can check them here - kzbin.info/aero/PLiECaNQx239tyFBcQqCyt8KWOfa-Su3Sy

is there any reason why my re-trig is not triggering the fm-ops envelopes? It seems like my S&H is not cv-controlling the quantizer
@giovannifalascone
@giovannifalascone 4 жыл бұрын
Ok I think I figured it out: the difference in voltage that the walk generates is not enough to 'turn the knob' on the quantizer through CV. You need to augment the scale and maybe also the rate in order to create sufficient voltage changes
@OmriCohen-Music
@OmriCohen-Music 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you will have to make sure that the voltage has the "right" range for it to work.
