My cpu or Mainboard just died after doimg your playlist daily for about a week now. Ahh.. after i get some new parts i gonna continue this asap. I really hope i can recover my files... Im thinking daily about what my plans are, what story line i want and what the keyparts in my fav. Games were, and why i loved them so much in the first place. Your Playlist gave me something i really needed

I didn't necessarily want the roman courtyard but I did want the information taught in this episode. I could use this info to make anything I can think of. Thank you. 😊

Cool series! I just leave few things here what I think can be useful: - Switching to Unlit mode can help to work in bad lighting conditions. Also Holding Ctrl+ L will give you a light control gadget to move the sun freely faster. - To copy objects the easiest is to hold ALT and move the object. It will make a copy. - To select more objects at once hold Ctrl+Alt and you can draw a selection box. - In situations like for eg. placing the roof tops on the arch, turning on object surface snapping might help. If it's on, when you move an object by dragging the center of the translate gizmo, it will align to the object next to it.

Didn't even know that object surface snapping was a thing, thanks!

Regarding the roof tile issue (1:10:40), I've seen people mention trying to adjust "Position Precision" to 1/8192cm (on Nanite Settings on the Static Mesh asset) to prevent shimmering at a distance. Also, depending on how Nanite handles small meshes that far away from screen, maybe merging lots of roof tiles into a single bigger mesh might work better farther away (total guess there). If it's a z-index fighting issue, you could try adjusting the near/far distance on the camera as I believe that affects precision of the z-buffer. Or, if it's none of those, you could probably slice out/push back geometry that's hidden just beneath the roof tiles. Anyhow, this is a 7 month old video, so perhaps you've already fixed this in one of the following episodes, that I've yet to watch...

I didn't 'fix' it per se but just came up with a backup in the next video. But this is great- appreciate the guidance and I'll look into it.

you could try double clicking the asset for the roof tile in UE and turning off LODS to see if it's the LOD 3/4/5 that's revealing the underlying assets due to the mesh being incrementally reduced in polycount the further you move away with the camera?

dang when I plane cut the triangle and added 26 DOP collision, my collision outline is that of a square. Yellow line around the triangle, but another line outlining the other half of the square that was cut to make the triangle. I flipped in it scene to play from the area it is placed, and the collision is in the shape of a square and won't let me pass under the triangle :( I wonder why the other half of the square is getting collision put around it when it was cut off

lol what the heck... just removed the collision and re-added it and now it works lol

did the same thing with the archway. Removed it and added it back and it worked. So if anyone has this issue, just try removing collision and adding it back!

This is great. Do you recommend using multiple materials with different scalings like you're do in this tutorial as opposed to using uv editor to remap the objects so they can use the same material?
@NumenBrothers Жыл бұрын
There's not much of a downside to having multiple child materials of the same material. I think the extra storage space is minimal. So really up to you- obviously the cleaner way of doing it is UV editing, but if you just need a few slight variations, a child material does nicely.

The tutorials have been great, but at this stage I am getting issues with VRAM Usage.. I have 8GB of VRAM but its like the engine is keeping ALL Textures loaded even when I'm out render distance. I'm also getting better performance setting my texture streaming pool at LESS then what VRAM i have. Any ideas on whats going on?

It's not you- it's me. And I mean that genuinely- it's the ridiculous initial level built in these first few episodes. We pack something like 40gb of assets into this single level. I wanted to push UE5 and Nanite to the limit. The exact level is not essential to the game we're making- but learning the concepts is. The level that begins with the ocean episode is where we will test out genuine gameplay, so it will be much less performance intensive (~5-10gb of assets as opposed to 40). So if you need to cut out a whole bunch of assets (for example, making this first level just the jungle quadrant and not worrying about anything else) that's totally fine.

@@NumenBrothers Hahaha okay, I see, I managed to build 2 quadrants so I'll just keep it at that and continue with the series. I appreciate the reply homie, and these tutorials are bussin g

You are very right in what you said. The more things you have loaded in a scene the engine pre opens and keeps um open.

haha, no worries. Still 2 weeks away before starting to get back into blueprints in earnest, if that's more of your focus. Not planning on making any more of these 1 hour marathon episodes anytime soon :)

Hm, I've a problem editing Backwall Segment 1 into Segment 2. I try to break Segment 1, but the 'yellow' outline stays around the whole item, I can't select individual items. I've tried duplicating Segment 1 to create Seg.2. But I can't edit that either. Any ideas, please? Nick

Hi Nick, apologies, I'm not sure. Have you tried breaking more than 1 level? Feel free to join our Discord- we'll see if we can help.
