I've just taken a delivery of a 2.8 auto 79 from AHT (thanks Sulien), and it is a killer little engine. My previous 70 was a Troopy with the V8, and this new one is streets ahead. There's no getting around the fact that the V8 sounds 100% better than the 2.8L, but the 2.8 is SO much nicer to drive and heaps faster. Naysayers will tell me it'll wear out twice as fast as the V8 but there's plenty of high KM Hiluxes out there. Time will tell.

I was in a 2.8 the other day and my mate was towing a 1 tone boat and it was very disappointing. It was revving realy high and was running hot driving up the hills. Every cylinder working double as hard to put out the same power as the V8.

@@Silvos29 never known a Toyota to overheat before?! But fair to say the V8’s were certainly de-tuned for longevity

@AdelaideHillsToyota I've owned 7 cruisers and they never run hot cause they were 6 cylinder and V8. The 2.8 is too small to handle the life of a cruiser.

@AdelaideHillsToyota only good thing about the 2.8 is they made my V8 double its value in price 🥶

@@Silvos29 time will tell I guess. I've been selling Toyota for over thirty years. No-one wanted the 80 Series because they cracked in the D pillar, they only wanted the 60's. Then they all bought the 80's. No-one wanted the 100 series because they were too big. Then they all bought 100 series. No-one wanted the 200 series because it was a V8. Then everyone bought the V8. No-one wanted the 300 because it was a V6. Now everyone is buying the 300 series. Generally speaking, Toyota make them pretty good so no-one likes to change. Over time they find out the "new" version is actually superior. Time will tell if the 4cyl is "better" than the V8.

No doubt a few of the last V8's will be registered as dealer demo's and sold at a premium with 20k's on them😂

@@Mikelennon78 we haven’t got any left to demo. But if we did we certainly can’t sell them for more than RRP.
