Glad to hear that! A lot of Color Grading, and any skill really, is also just a lot of repetition and hearing the same things multiple times and something in different ways as well, so I'm happy to hear these are helping you out!

Not dumb at all - actually very helpful and informative! I haven't been using tone curves much but am definitely going to be trying them more out in the future thanks to this!

Appreciate it! The Tone Curve is an incredibly strong tool. But can range from doing something very simple to something super complex and breaking the image if one is not careful. So it's definintely a good idea to play around with it!

Very interesting challenge, impressed on your use of correcting and balancing and also getting some nice color separation with just the tone curve!

when you do the colour space transform, how do you know what options to select

I’ve chosen the colour profile in my camera, so I know what it is from that 😊

I’ve. Even using a lot of split toning curves to correct badly shot interviews -8 bit rec709 footage received as prores-lt. it helps when trying to deliver an acceptable result matching cameras shot over exposed, in mixed temperature regimes in which the shadows and highlights inevitably do not match. The only criteria I work on is skin. Use look reasonable in context, and somewhat separated from the background. The oddest thing is that the least experienced cameraman, -a volunteer -is delivering the most flexible, and out of camera graduable images. He has months of experience on 2013 cameras, while the experienced guys on much better spec de recent cameras are the ones driving me crazy. So much so the producer has given that volunteer a significant Christmas bonus. Not strictly grading for me in the artistic sense. But given the severe constraints offered by my current typical sources, using other Color page tools can have me chasing my tail, and overstepping.

Yes, the curves allow for a lot more flexibility and overall control if you know what you're doing!
@johnwaldmann52229 ай бұрын
@@AlexBjorstorp True, improved control is possible even when you only have a primitive notion what you are doing. --and many many false starts. So many fun ways to break one’s image.
