I had no idea that St. Lucians spoke the same language as Haitians. I went on vacation and the taxi man started speaking creole to the person on the phone after telling us about the island. I was like wait a minute are you Haitian because you just spoke Haitian creole? I think he got insulted, but he was like no this is Lucian Creole. I was in my 20s then, but I had no idea and I live in South Florida, the mecca of every island and surround by different people. I've heard other creoles and are not even close to Haitian creole like St. Lucian creole, but I sometimes wonder now if the St. Lucians just assimilate as Haitians because I was just mesmerized by it and not ever knowing this. This is definitely coming from someone born in America and knowing my families native tongue. I felt so ignorant that day. We all need to travel and learn about different countries, I'm sure Native Haitians know this, but again I'm Americanized.

@@nay9nay St.Lucia was fought by the British and French 14 times each won 7 after the war it was an even fight the British and French settled there and thats how descendents of slaves learnt the French but it was broken its called Creole. Seriously, 1 of the best ways to learn how to cook is watching these step-by-step recipe videos on KZbin. That way you know exactly how things are meant to be done. I myself wouldn't even know how to cook properly if not for KZbin. Making errors is fine, nothing is always going to be perfect and that's how you learn to improve and become consistent.

Yes, there are many similarities in cooking especially with people in Guyana and Trinidad. There are a few that will use make their own masala (turmeric, garlic, cumin, coriander, star anise, etc) instead of just premade curry powder. And they do call potatoes aloo in these countries also
@nalinir50924 жыл бұрын
Sunaina sharma gentle correction in your knowledge. The majority of Indians who now live in the Caribbean are the descendants of slaves / indentured laborers who were brought to the Caribbean many years ago when Britain ruled India. There are quite a number of Indians who not so long ago moved to the Caribbean islands. As such, the way we currently cook and the recipes are very similar. The nuances are due to the indentured laborers using what was available to them. The food is really delicious if cooked well.
