If Brian says HE is starting at 65 pounds for this, we are all in serious, serious trouble...

yea complexs like this are humbling. just the bar is enough for most people. this is 40 minutes of hell. its the presses that really kill you as its so much of a weaker movement.

I just did this, and it was great. I did pull-ups, overhead presses, lowbar squats, power snatches, overhead squats, power cleans, front squats, and dead-rows. Since I’m 61 years old I started light and only added a quarter pound to each side per set. For pullups I went the other way, starting with 15 pounds, working down to bodyweight, then assistance bands. I stuck the barbell in J-hooks mounted in their top position, and did pull-ups from it in chair-sit and L-sit positions. Timing this on a phone, pushing a touch screen button with one finger while holding a loaded barbell was not my best planning, but it did make me laugh at myself so that's good. What I didn't expect is the following: 1. deeper squat depth 2. speedier rotation on the snatch and clean 3. surprising explosiveness out of the hole on the overhead squat. These all came towards the end of the session. I must need to sometimes start light, stay light, and work fast with a deadline. Rediscovering range of motion and speed is a real blessing. Thank you so much! The mental game of self-monitoring, analysis, and correction also really sped up. This sequence really cleared my head and reset my mind. “Move a muscle, change a thought.” Thanks again, Coach Brian.
@UnequalTemperament5 жыл бұрын
Sounds good! Where you say, "added a quarter pound to each side," though, did you mean a 2.5 pound plate? I haven't seen 1/4 pound (.25 pound) plates -- doesn't mean that they don't exist, just that I haven't seen them.
@BluegillGreg5 жыл бұрын
@@UnequalTemperament I did really just add a quarter pound to each side. They're a set of tiny (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1&1/4 pound) little plates I got from Rogue. A pair of 1&1/4s would probably complement a pair of 2&1/2s for most people, and the rest are probably overkill. In my 60s I find I still progress when I add weight, but keeping the increases small keeps me psyched to do the next workout, which is huge.

WOW ........ This is going to be a DEATH. I tot the deadlift finisher was a killer (Every Minute On The Minute ) 2,4,6,8 ......... I have never been able to go past 8 minutes. By end of the 7th which is 14 rep my heart is racing, my grip is gone as well as my leg drive. I am on the floor flat as soon as the barbell is down. Wife and son will be laughing so hard cos i can't even speak. Sometimes i just combine few of the finishing workouts and with 45mins am done and the feeling is great. Now this!!!! Oh my goodness! I am sure by the first set I will be dead. Looking forward to trying it this weekend There is always time to fit in a workout no matter how busy. Work requires me to travel around the world 4-6 months out of the year. Having a decent gym available tends to be the exception. A good 30-40% of my traininng for the past 10 years has been complexes like you described in this video. One in my situation has to be creative to keep progressing. Anyways, I find the ROI on complexes tends to drop significantly after 20 minutes. If I had a 40 minute training window I'd hit the complex for 20 minutes. 5 minutes rest and set up. 10-20 minutes of EMOMs with a focus on a specific movement or muscle group. That's just been my general experience.

Hi Brian! Want to share with you a circuit workout for rowing athletes from a book about gpp and spp. This book was written in soviet union and you might find it interesting and usefull: So for first 3-4 weeks the goal is to be able make 50-60 reps with 30-50% of 1 rep max with 1 min rest between exercises Next 3 weeks the goal is two make 2 exercises in a row and then rest for 1-2 min (exersise 1+exercise2-rest-exercise3+exersice4..) Next 3 weeks 4 exercise in a row with 2 min rest Last 3 weeks-all exercises without rest with 50 reps each Choose 8-10 exercises, in the book 8 exercises are presented: Dealift, bench press, half squat, bicep curls, ketllebell swings, bent ovr rows, calf raises, hanging leg raise hold Here you go. I think it's badass type of workout. Gradually build yourself to a nonstop 400-500 reps workout. 1-2 times per week Hope you find this interesting))

I absolutely cannot lower the bar from a Over head position to my back. I don't know if my shoulders are just fcked, or if my mobility is not good enough *yet* , but it causes me a lot of pain and shoulder popping for nearly an hour afterwards. Should I just front Squat and RDL after the first OHP?
@ctvwrest5 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you could have an issue with external rotation. I messed myself up pretty good a couple years ago doing this and it was because I was internally rotating my shoulders when I was lowering the weight down. If your elbows are flaring behind you when you lower, definitely work on your mobility before doing this. It's the same ROM as behind the neck presses/pull downs which shouldn't be done unless you have the mobility for it. Just my opinion based on my experience is all.

OMG...horribly wonderful - sweat dripping in eyes and cannot wipe because Brian wont let you put the bar down, and it burns - can barely get 8 cleans in the 20 seconds, but he didnt say has to be 8 - OHP is impossible at round 5, even with LOTS of leg drive I am humbled - front rack position after round 3 I feel like I cannot breath - I cannot go up. Held at 65 and really could not do it all correctly - floor around me is dangerous from my sweat I want to quit at ever round. so good once done. It does mess up my leg workout the following day oddly. Cardio in place without having to run!!!! Literally shaky at the end. AMAZING workout.
