I know the feeling, I did the same thing for years! Emetophobia is actually one of the most common phobias, it's just that no one talks about it. Chances are, you probably know a few people that are also hiding it - you're not alone in this 🤗 No problem at all, I'm so glad I could help!

Food is one of my huge triggers when I'm having an anxious day. I woke up feeling nauseous this morning for whatever reason, but I watched your intrusive thoughts videos while drinking my coffee to calm myself down, then this video while eating my breakfast and it helped so so much ! I'm a little anxious and nauseous now but it's nothing compared to how I was feeling. Thank you so so much for your videos, they're super helpful

Oh, boy, these videos are a bless! I'm in the process of being diagnosed IBS and my stomach muscles are sooo tense from the anxiety and the intrusive thoughts video was very helpful. I needed the helpful hand. Thank you SO much! 💓 Eating is hard, but I've eaten what I needed and I'm proud. Thankfully it's a flare up and it will pass~

@@ameliaelizaax2895 Absolutely, it was the thing that helped me the most at my worst! I've had two separate rounds of CBT (would really recommend) and one of EMDR (very intense but incredible). That's great that it's so soon, I hope it goes well!

Hi, you have a great voice! I'm curious if you consider yourself fully recovered from emetophobia? What therapy helped you the most? I tried CBT but it was too brutal for me (I had a bad therapist). I am in Internal Family Systems therapy and highly recommend it, have you heard of it? I'm also learning about body psychotherapy, trauma responses and somatic experiencing. I'm curious if you did any body-based work for your phobia?

Hey, thank you very much! So I've had emetophobia since I was very young and I am certain that I will always have it going forward. However, I am in the best state I have ever been in and I can actually contribute that to mostly medication (I’m working on a video at the moment about meds). I still get emetophobic intrusive thoughts every day but it’s so much easier to deal with. Therapy-wise I've been through CBT twice & EMDR and both were immensely helpful in my recovery. EMDR is crazy in the way that it works so quickly, I’d absolutely recommend it, but you have to re-experience trauma and it exacerbates any anxiety/intrusive thoughts that you already have, so I’d advise being in a very safe space if you are interested in starting that one (look at ‘My Emetophobia Story 5’ and onwards for my personal experience with that therapy). I am so, so incredibly sorry to hear about your experience! I think having the right, caring therapist can seriously help your progress and I am so sorry that you didn’t get that. What happened? I haven't actually heard of any of these body-based therapies, what do they involve? Are you finding them very helpful? 😊
@kalilavalezina
@kalilavalezina 3 жыл бұрын
@@EmetophobiaHelp Hi, thanks for your reply! I'm so glad to hear the therapies you found were helpful, that's great! It's good to know that about EMDR. I've considered it for a few years but never found the moment to do it. My CBT therapist was very insensitive. She told me in the first session "next week I'll make you eat a sandwich off the floor and later you'll be vomiting in a toilet, I could make you do that right now". Looking back it makes me really angry. CBT made me feel suicidal for the first time. It also cost my family £1k for the privilege of 10 awful sessions, so I am quite against CBT (perhaps wrongly) because of that experience. I didn't have the courage to go back into therapy for many many years. I've been in IFS therapy for a year now and it's slow but it goes very deep and is a big change, not just for my phobia, but for everything really. You might not feel the need for more therapy now, but if you do, IFS could be useful. There's a lovely FB group and loads of great books. I'm relatively new to the body-based therapies, but I've read a bit about Somatic Experiencing. I'm yet to know fully how that would work for an emetophobe, but basically it encourages you to focus on your body and sensations and listen to what your body needs to do. As my phobia feels like a fear of a sensation (I know it is more than that, but that's the main thrust of it) I think working with my body could shed new light on what's happening in my system and it just made sense recently to look into it. It took me a long long time to find these other therapies. I thought it was CBT, hypnotherapy or counselling and nothing else. My understanding is that emetophobia is a trauma response and trauma gets trapped in the body and nervous system. Body-based psychotherapies can help you work out the trauma somatically. Because of my phobia I've always dreaded medication! I'll watch your video, sounds interesting. x

@@kalilavalezina No worries, it's what I'm here for! So EMDR really helped with the trauma side of my emetophobia so it might be one to consider, but as I say, it's very intense and could possibly cause spiraling due to the increased side effects. Ok, I'm telling you right now, that woman should be immediately sacked or sued!! No one like that should ever be allowed to run a mental health practice. That is absolutely the opposite of what CBT is. You are never, ever forced to do anything because (as you have already proven) it will make you worse and you absolutely never have to do anything to make you sick. Not in my experience anyway. I’m not surprised you became suicidal, because of course she made you worse! You poor thing, I’m so sorry to hear that!! A therapist should be an ally, not a bully! I’m so glad that you’re having a better experience now though, that sounds very interesting, amazing that there’s still so many therapies out there that we don’t know about! Absolutely, sensation is a massive, triggering part of emetophobia. It's kind of like Thoughts/Feelings/Anxiety - it’s all different parts that makeup the whole emetophobia package. I’ve just had a quick look at the somatic - very interesting! Thank you for letting me know! It actually sounds a little like the mindfulness I was taught, in taking into consideration the importance of listening to your body. And yes, I absolutely agree, paying attention to your body is a massively helpful tool in getting you to recognise certain trigger sensations and knowing that it’s just a physical reaction (this is what I focus on in the ‘Intrusive Thought Relief' video). I know! It’s amazing that different therapies are not more talked about. There’s also EFT (tapping) therapy which I've heard really good things about and was taught a little bit about in EMDR. Would recommend ‘The Butterfly Hug’ technique for quickly soothing anxiety - works wonders! Yes, that sounds exactly right! Yes I was in exactly the same mind about medication before I went on it. It’s definitely not for everyone and what medication helps one person might be a nightmare for another. I don’t know if I’d recommend it because of that, but all I can say is that personally, it’s made my life with emetophobia livable. I think you just have to find what works for you and it sounds like you may have found it 😉 x

I'm so sorry that you're having to endure this, but at the same time you are SO strong for having to endure this! I've literally been to your point, it's. the. Worst. I know exactly what you're going through but I can tell you that you can absolutely come through this and things 100% get better! And I can promise this because I have seen it get better when I didn't think it was possible. I would advise going to see your GP as soon as possible and seeing if they can give you something to help. I would also look into therapy if you can. I would also recommend making smoothies because you don't have to chew anything, you can drink it as slowly as you want and it will give you the strength you need. You can do this, I promise you, I PROMISE you things can get better 💕💕💕

This was so me … I feel you.. so so so much. Im a 15 yo teen who’s been suffering with this on and off feeling .. I remember I wouldn’t be able to eat anything for about a week or so .. and it was the most horrible thing ever. I’m currently doing so much better then before and all I can tell you is … this takes time.. really really slow.. but it will take some time.. take in note that this feeling and pain- won’t stay forever! I would tell myself so many things like “I want this all to be over already… I want to eat normally again..” “why can’t I ate anymore” “will this be permanent?!” “I’m so hungry but why am I so scared to eat?” And honestly.. with the help of therapy.. it helped me.. so much :( If you aren’t able to reach a therapist any time soon I feel like meditation helps me a lot.. and writing your feelings down! Remember that they are just thoughts and they won’t hurt you! If you’re trying to eat something and get intrusive thoughts that make you not want to eat ! Try distracting yourself maybe be?? What helped me the most is try to eat little by little and take deep breaths when you get a random intrusive thought- just let it flow away .. Hope you are doing ok :( you communicate in this a year ago.. how have u been doing ?
