Let's Fix A Viewer's PS2 Fat with a Disc Read Error

A continuation of my previous video where a viewer sent me two PS2s to repair. This PS2 Fat doesn't want to read discs and we're going to try to fix it.

FYI, There are 3 types of lasers for PS2s, 400B, 400C, and 400K. 400C seems the most reliable, but if yours currently has a different version you need to tinker with the firmware to get the console to recognize the different version laser.

My ps2 is not working I can turn it on. but when I put a game in, it says in browser reading disc and won’t do anything else any thoughts?

I'd try cleaning the laser to see if that helps. If not, it might need a replacement laser.

I've still had DRE issues after replacing the laser mainly on 30001 and 30001R models. Anyone know why?

I assume you got rid of the anti-shock solder blob. Lens changer might be needed. it reprograms the eprom chip on the board that deals with the laser. You can run it off of a memory card with mcboot. It’s amazing and occasionally fixes “no reads” all together. Some models cant use it though.😢
