We recently pulled this pump out of a water-cooled gaming PC because it stopped working. In today's episode, we investigate the issue and proceed to fix this PC water cooling pump!
Our hunch is it seized up because it was horizontally placed in the chassis without having the pump fully submerged and the pastel coolant caused buildup to cause the flow rate to slow down.

this video needs a million likes. You just saved me about $200 and a couple weeks of downtime... I bought a prebuilt ekwb gaming pc with a pc-011d distribution plate a year ago. I was sitting here and for no reason my pc starts stuttering and then shuts down. I fired it back up and my pump was clearly not working and it went into bios with alarms for cpu fan failure. I tore apart all the plugs and checked everything, still no go. I figured the pump was bad so I called customer support to see if it was covered under warranty and nope... They wont even sell just the pump so I would've had to buy a whole new distribution plate at $200 and swap everything over. I couldn't find much on diagrams of this specific type pump to try and see what the issue was so I just grabbed a screwdriver and some towels and started digging in. I didn't know what was supposed to move and what was supposed to stay put. Your video was PERFECT to see what was wrong. The impeller was seized on the shaft. After having to pry on it to get it off, I started cleaning everything out and finally freeing it up to spin a bit. One thing you didn't note on here was those TINY little washers on the shaft. I damn near dropped them in the carpet and they would've been goners if they didn't stick to the magnet. Got everything put back together and hit the power button and had nothing but relief that I somehow fixed it. Kudos on the great informative video bro!

Alright I'm going to vouch for you; because I had a pump that was "broken" and I watched your video. My pump was nothing like yours but I fixed it. Lets discuss.. I pulled my pump after three different attempts at rinsing the blades and re assembling; it wasn't that it wasn't working, because my pump would turn on and I could watch the blades spin inside but the fluid definitely was NOT moving. I watched this video and I was able to shake yank the magnet OUT of the housing (around the needle) that I didn't realize was removable. BUT, just cleaning mine didn't fix anything. I actually used a little dab of super glue and reconnected the blade to the magnetic portion, they were just sitting against each other lightly (they were designed to be attached but somehow detached, my pump had been sitting and jostled with moving) after I glued and let sit, I was able to assemble the pump and get it to run even better than it did before I assembled it in the first place. Thanks man, you saved me a bunch of trouble. I still got an extra pump (cost me like 25) just incase the fix fails, but I'm happy with my fix.

If anyone tries this fix in the future, super glue isn't very water resistant. Better to use a two part epoxy or small amount of gorilla glue (original) OR best a marine epoxy.

Nice, this makes a lot of sense. I don't use thick additives or colours in my loop, but I'm a bit lazy and don't clean it out very often. Crud tends to build up. When I built my loop I also bought myself a spare pump/res and after about 5 years my pump stopped working and I never attempted fixing it, I just swapped it out. But after watching this video I figured out to take mine apart and cleaned it out. I found by putting a drop of detergent through the hole at the centre of the impeller (that goes on the shaft) and spinning it manually, I was able to clean off all the build up sediment that was making it so stiff and now it spins quite freely. I still need to test that it actually works, but if it does it's one less part to worry about should my loop stop working again. Cheers.

Hey man, great video! By any chance do you know the pump PN? Was the pump and Reservoir purchased as a combo or did you add the Reservoir later? I would love to use one for a small project I am currently working on, but wanted to get the exact PN and possibly where you purchased it (amazon, AliExpress, ...) Thanks again!

Usually the other one is to be connected to MB or a sperate controller to control pump speed.

Are you sure the term shorted is correct when referring to the 24 pin adapter? Just wondering terminology wise.

Hi, my molex connector has snapped off the cables from the freezemod pump, two black one with white markings do you know which go where on the molex connector thanks 👍
@NeuralValley
@NeuralValley 2 жыл бұрын
There should be two cable pins, the grey one goes to the marked #1 pin on the molex connector, and the black one goes to #2 pin on molex. This is a common issue for these pumps, sometimes manufacturers warranty will help you replace this.

The connector doesn't short out the power supply it closes or completes the start switch circuit that is built into the power supply. Details matter to beginners. Not being mean, great video.

All you did was rinse the blade and put it back in. For all we know you unplugged the power supply turn the switch and said the pump doesn’t work. Rinse blade, assemble, plug power supply back in. Turn switch and the pump works… lol

@@NeuralValley Not Trying To Be Dick… But I was hoping for more depth all he did was rinse off the blade. I did learn how the liquid is pulled in and that it was a magnet. Had no idea and keep trying to pull mine out. Was scared of breaking it till watched this vid. So now I’m going to make a pump/reservoir combo out of old AIO..
