I learned a few years ago, the hard way: Bubble baths and buying stuff is not self care. It’s realizing you need SUN first thing in the morning, it’s making sure you are eating, or eating the right things for yourself. It’s getting enough sleep. And it’s addressing what is causing misalignment in your life. Can’t go under it can’t go around it have to go through it stuff. I hope you can take care of yourself well this year Angie! ❤

Someone just told me Gardeners are rarely down because they always have something to look forward to and something to do. There’s always the excitement of planning the garden, watching the seeds grow and picking the flowers.

This video completely hit me!!! I'm not really a pick a word of the year kinda gal...but I just keep hearing the Lord whisper... "rest, be still, calm." We women just have a hard time allowing ourselves to NOT do it all!

I am in the same boat as you, here in the UK! I still get out as I have to walk my dogs everyday but my whole body is covered as its so cold, so not getting much vitamin D, I really need to start taking a supplement! I didn't take your comment as complaining either, just all talking about our different situations 🙂

I would totally LOVE to hear EVERYTHING about how you do Intermittent Fasting!!! As far as dealing with “Crappy Situations” that happen throughout my life, I try to remember…”God can do more with your surrender than you can with your control.” I give “it” all to God. It is comforting to know that He is in control. Prayer changes things!❤

Kelsey, I needed to read your comment today. I, too, did IF (with great success), quit it (I have no idea why, it was some time ago), and now am also feeling “crappy”. I have GOT to get more strict about my eating window. I know I’ll feel better, lose weight, sleep better, etc. I’m sorry you’re feeling crappy, but I also appreciated your comment and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one being “funky” about getting back on track. Here’s to us doing what’s best for us in 2023! 🥂

I also did the intermittent fasting and lost 20 pounds and my daughter over 100 pounds. Be prepared to loose some of your hair. Both of us lost quite a bit of hair and it has taking me 1 year to get new growth. Having said that this helped me with controlling my diabetes and my primary care Doctor was pleased. Look on KZbin Dr. Fung, he is the best at explaining the reason to to do this in your life. Good Luck.

It's a balmy 3°F here in North Dakota this morning, and when I took my dog out earlier today, I was marveling at the beauty of the frost and snow covering the trees, the stillness of the air, the sunrise. It was lovely. I came inside with a 180 perspective from what I woke up with. Agreed; outdoors do more for my mental health and perspective than just about anything else.

Also - I had severe back pain after the birth of my daughter for a year. I did chiropractic and massage therapy for a solid year before seeing a physical therapist who did myofascial release. I was "cured" with 3 treatments. Just a tip, in case myofascial release is not something you've yet tried.

I'm in Nebraska and it's hard for me to get motivated to get outside and walk when it's so cold but you're right, it's so refreshing and pretty in the crisp air. I also agree with the myofascial. I worked with a therapist who did the Hellerwork technique on me. I haven't felt like crying when getting out of bed for almost 4 yrs due to back pain. It worked wonders!

I’ve also fallen off my fasting wagon this winter. When my Grandma was alive and in a wheelchair, she said once “my body has betrayed me”. She was talking about being bloated, but I think it also applies to our bodies aging before our minds. I think I’m still 18, but my body reminds me I’m 51. I feel all your aches and pains Angie. So happy to see you back!! Lorie 😊

I really appreciate that you take into consideration other people in your life. Honestly it is nobody's business what is going On in your husband's or kids' lives. I have to say I have been blocked by an influencer twice in my life. The first one when an influencer shared a Photo of her daughter whe potty training and I said that this is pretty intimate. And recently, when a well known diy instagrammer made a reel with herself crying over her dying father. I mean can you imagine setting up a camera right by hospital bed? She said that she did it in order to remember. Odd thing but ok, but then again why sharing it with millions of people. For likes? 🤷‍♀️ It's like an espisode of Black Mirror

Thanks for sharing! I felt all of this! I'm also a business owner and have the same goal to define the time I'm working better. Re: self care. I think we need to move away from self care as "spa night at home" toward "How can I _care_ for myself better?" For some that means going to therapy (happy mind, happy life). For others, it can mean practicing mindfulness, appreciating the small things, exercising, cutting people out of your life or mending severed relationships -- whatever it may be. It takes time and it's not a linear process. We all deserve to care for ourselves.

The life-changing moment is when we realize - We can't pull ourselves together! We can't talk ourselves into acting better...at least not for the long-term. We must lean on the Father, dive into His word and prayer, and continually be built up by family, friends, and fellow Christ-followers for the ability to live as He designed us to live. I love how Kirk Cameron summed it up on his show with Candace: small, medium, large, cosmic things in life Savor the small things (date nights, coffee with friends, hobbies, laughing with my children, beautiful weather, etc) Invest heavily into the medium things (my marriage, children, career, ministry, family, friendships, community) Let go (and pray often) about the large things that are out of our control (politics, stock market, war, crime, etc) Celebrate the cosmic things (God is still and always will be sovereign, in control, and GOOD. In the end, we win.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oH-tc3ycobCebJI I'll take that with me this year and share it. God is good. He loves His children and desires fellowship with them (John 1:12).

Self care doesn’t make shit better. I can attest to this first hand. 20 years of marriage and my husband left seven months ago and wants a divorce. I’m left reeling and can’t get there mentally. I want to fix the issues and it SUCKS. It’s killing me honestly. I hate it and trying to come to terms with the reality is hurting so much as I’m worrying about our children as well. I get it. I soooo get it

Not boring... Two thoughts... We need to parent ourselves like we do our kiddos. I'm so much better at making sure they get enough sleep, eat well, limit their screen time, etc. And I know you do too, but for myself, ugh, sometimes!! Second, lean into your faith! Hard times push us to our knees. I don't know what you have been dealing with but I know God will meet you there and g through with you. He also, has answers and direction for you. Praying you get the clear answers for your family, for this season! ❤

The sunlight thing really hit home for me! I work from home, in a new state, and we haven’t built any community yet. So I have nothing to take me out of the house, and the winter weather and gloom has been real. I’ve never experienced gloom like that until now. So I’m also making a goal to be better about getting outside - but also getting outside away from the house 🤣

not all the way through the video, but I had to stop it and say this! if anyone is feeling not all there, or I am not sure how to describe it, but the earth grounds you! putting your feet onto dirt or the ground helps with negativity. even just sitting on the ground, even if you need a blanket or something because you don't like getting onto the ground by itself, it will help ground you and make you feel more level! I am going to watch the rest of the video now! xoxo

So glad I watched til the end because, oh my goodness, I can relate. It is the hard situations in life that can paralyze us. I think that, as a mother, hard situations in regards to your children can be the toughest to get through. Getting it through your head that there are things you just cannot fix or change is so much easier said than done. I know that it is only with my faith in God and the constant knowledge of my access to the Holy Spirit, I can feel hope. There are seasons of life that involve hard days, weeks, months and we have to go through these "crappy" times. You are so right in that we try to accommodate the hard times with things that are only masking them. When we face our situations and accept our human limitations we come out stronger and wiser. Thanks for the much needed reminder.

Hi Angie! I totally agree. Sunshine in your eyes and spending time outside is so important. This time of the year sunshine is hard to come by, as I live in Sweden. You’d be amazed at what PT can do diagnostically and for pain relief. I couldn’t move my shoulder for nearly 6 weeks without pain. Like even turning the steering wheel in my car was excruciating , couldn’t lift my arm above my head, it was awful! Just a few short weeks, maybe a month?, of PT later pain free and full mobility.

Another year I grew tomatoes, just as the prices dropped in the local farmers market. Experienced that, enjoyed that, moved on. This year I made a Christmas cake, enjoyed doing it but I'll do something else next year. No point making too much work for yourself.

I just turned 40! Yes, work on feeling good. Check out "diastasis Recti" excercises for your back. My pregnancy caused my abs to split. A tummy tuck is considered cosmetic, but those muscles support your back! I have had to do much PT to keep those muscles strong to support your back. Good luck with all your life changes!

Cannot wait for the summer!! I was sipping my tea and eating a bite of warm cornbread before we went and did some clothes shopping and I just had this huge flash of summer, such a great feeling, getting the house all re arranged for the new year has been a fresh breathe of air as well…

Sometimes you need to give yourself a little grace. You have a huge family. Know all the good you have done, are doing now and what you have done to prepare for the future of your family. I feel I need to say the next thing because I feel you need to hear it, as you've alluded to things going on in your private life. I've said this many times, but for such a youngin', you always make yourself sound sooooo old....but you are coming to a season in your life where you are now having to become more responsible as your elderly family ages, becomes sick and needs assistance. It can feel like you have no control and that is because you don't. I know you don't like hearing this. During this time, try to be thankful for the time you have had with them and all you have learned; just the fact that you can feel such loss because you've been so blessed. It's a struggle, but only because you've had such good in your life. If I'm waaaay off base, totally ignore this. Hugs to you and your family!

@Angela Braniff -- seriously get into pelvic pt. I bet the twin pregnancy messed up things (mine certainly did). I had no idea that it would help/focus on my back.

I totally relate to putting off non-urgent things due to overwhelm. Glad to know I’m not the only one who’s awful at replying when life gets a bit full! I will say though, that there is one thing that will help when you’re going through terrible situations: waiting on the Lord; depending on Him for strength and comfort. It doesn’t make the pain vanish, but He does help us “get THROUGH” it. P.S Finally got the audiobook of Love without Borders and loving it! It makes all the difference too, to hear you read it 😊

Thank you for your vulerability and honesty in sharing your lessons with us. I 100% agree with the importance of the sun and grounding in the earth. You don't need to share every detail of your personal life with us. I'm sure that we can all relate to the information that you did provide to a situation in our own lives-hello, life experience! Now that you mention your garden, I assumed that all was completed in that area. And you moved back indoors to work on the kids' bedrooms. I also recall "life" hitting the farm with the chickens being attacked, Shelby's dog requiring surgery and needing to be re-homed, a horse becoming ill, horses leaving for training, loss of a family friend that was also a horse owner, ducks having to be re-homed, etc, etc..I will continue to watch your content because I truly enjoy your soothing voice, "your favorites", and your do-it-yourself transformations in your home/cabin. I do miss seing the animals though, especially that Lottie!!

Thank you for the positive influence 💞 love and appreciate your personality and how you view life 🤩 good lessons and thanks again for sharing 🙏 good character call on your boundaries of what to share, it’s so important to respect others involved. AND at the end of the day- you’re not actually “sharing life” with Nancy from Nevada, you’re sharing life with your family and friends 😛 it’s important to draw that line.

Oh yes, self care is great but only goes so far! When it’s not enough for me I know I need to get me spiritual life back on track, connecting through the Bible is the best way to go through those crappy situations well.

Have you done physiotherapy? I’ve dealt with back pain for years and ended up in the hospital due to it. I was prescribed physiotherapy and it helped me so much! You have to stay consistent and keep up with the exercises/stretches (even when you’re done physio) to prevent the back pain from returning. Best of luck to you!

8:01 we have a pergola that I adore and from Mid-April to probably the start of October the sun rises directly in to it, we have a couch where I spent an hour with my coffee, my meditation and all the things it's amazing. But to say I totally get it. It's something I've been massively missing all winter. The sun on my face, its amazing what something so simple can give you if it's warm or cold outside. And what happens when you don't get it.
