Check the battery water level. Mine was hard to crank one year until I popped the covers off and topped up with distilled water. Just add enough water to cover each of the holes. Blow the leaves and grass off after every use. They will hold moisture and rust the deck.

every brigs which is all we have ever run all burn oil just add as needed change filters etc good as gold.

My neighbor that lived near by had a john Deere zero turn mower and I can't count the times the dealer came to pick it up to fix something. I have a Gravelly and I have done all the maintenance on it. The dealer here in Missouri I took it to because I hit barb wire under the mower and caused damage to just above the PTO and he fixed it. Then changed the oil and filters for the engine and drives. Another channel I watch from Canada he got a new stihl chainsaw in for repair and the person put regular straight gas in it and wondered why. He removed the muffler and the walls were badly scored. Junk! He also had a new trimmer come in with the same problem

I've got a Briggs and Stratton that's the same as yours, Just put a new carb on at 2,833 hours. Runs good if you do your maintenance

Our John Deere z997 zero turn has exhaust system that probably needs replace. shut off randomly.

I use High-Temp Red loctite #272 for my chainsaw muffler bolts.

would it get hot enough there to melt it again?

@@billstmaxx You may have to check them after a couple hours of hard running. But when I add 272 to the muffler bolts on the 046/MS460 (which is notorious for bad vibration), they do not come loose. I also use Head Bolts on the 046 in place of the muffler bolts. Same thread, but a little longer. I don't recall if you can do the same swap on the 041.

Smells like old gas? My JD does the same thing on last year's corn-fluid! They don't make gas like they use to.
