I did a lot of that myself this summer ,but now the grass is not growing much. We haven't had rain in a while and everything is really dry. You might need to get yourself a zero turn mower as many things that you mow around. Hope all is well and we will continue to keep you and Nannie in our prayers

Hey Mike , grass looks great . I have the very same mower . I got it in 2007 . I just had to change the drive belt and deck belt this year . Everytime I finish mowing I blow it off with the leaf blower and I blow air down the flywheel screen while it’s idling . I change the oil at least 2 time a season and put in a new air filter at the start of the season with a fuel filter . 👍🏻
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 2 ай бұрын
How's she goin'? Del you know how to take care of your gear buddy! When Nannie used to do all the mowing she would always use the 'flush nozzle connection' on the deck and flush the deck for at least 5 minutes after ever mowing. The deck was always pretty clean at the end of the season because of this. No rust at all. Then I would do the regular maintenance on it every spring. There is over 200 hours on the mower and it's still like new. Take 'er easy!!

@@GrampiesWorkshop As an old planters forman about 6 to 8 feet between the stems should be fine. ASK your local forest service as there is a big differance between white and black spruce need as far as soil and watter needs. They are both hearty plants but black spruce only does well with soil that is light so the little trees can drink their needs where white spruce needs are far dryer. Black spruce has limbs (whirls) all the way down to the ground almost where the whirls on the white spruce start further up on the trunk. It's needs can be googled but the FS has a beter understanding of local soils. How to plant them is avail on line as well. You need to understand what a J root and other needs for them to do well. Just imagine how the new forest should look without them touching each other. Too close /Tight they should be. If they touch each other sores will develope and allow bugs etc get at the sap wood. One other thing is not to take out the aspen and poplars as they will help shade the new seedlings. Looking back up here I see the choice is Black Spruce. They have a tap root with their endless search for water. White spruce will basically drownd and get a root rot. Oh my bud. I have seen hundreds of thousands of new trees planted and 20 years later there are wonderful new forests looking for the skys. The FS will sugest doubling up around the edges/borders so in a coulenyears the extra trees will make a bit of a wind break. When they get stronger the extra stems will need to be spaced out of the edges. Mind the winds preferences as well. Work with it like a friend and not an enemy. Wow bud I can go on and on with silvaculture. I have visited blocks that are 30 years old and from nothing bigger than an inch to trees 30 feet tall and hapy as can be. Oh yea. ask the FS about fertilizers. They shouldn't need much but a bit can't hurt. OH ya, again. The seedlings that you will plant came from local seed cones. The seed must come from a local sourse both locally and vercally. The seed is as tiny as tiny can be. Somewhere around a 64'th inch long by a 128th inch wide. Take a green cone and put it in the oven on a cookie sheet or toaster oven and the cones will open. You can get a lot of the the tiny seeds or very few. Lots of variables are in play. So fella. There is nothing in the world I love more than seeing a new forest come to life. Holler if you need bud. A great big hug to your wonderful other and oh how I wish I could be there for the birth of a brand new forest eh ! YAHOOOOOOO

Hello Dean!! Wow Dean, it sounds like forestry and silviculture is pretty close to your heart!! I picked black spruce because where I'll be planting them is kind of damp to wet most of the time. It's a low spot on the property and close to teh lake. Also because the limbs grow low to the ground and have a bigger diameter than does the red or white spruce. Black spruce is suppose to be a fast grower too. So all that to say I hope the privacy between me and the neighbors should be restored in less 'years'!! LOL I was planning on planting them about 6 to 8 feet apart in a kind of zig-zag pattern along the property line. We only have 250 seedlings and I would like to plant them on both sides of the property so I'm not too sure how long the 'plant line' will be. We'll see I guess. Thanks for all the tips here Dean. Once again you have proven to be a wealth of info!! That's nice to know because if I have any questions or concerns, I know I can check in with you!! Take 'er easy!!

Takes me days to get back to normal afterward. Thinking that a lawn company my be in my future. There was a time when young people would be eager to mow for some cash, but seem scarce around these parts nowadays. Looks like you have quite the good sized garden there! All's looking mighty fine!!
