I'm bound and determined to make it through this video! I dig your content, and reactions! The information is fascinating, but what accent or inflectiondoes the narrator have? It's driving me nuts trying to on it down!

Warrior women did exist historically it's just that it was very rare and culturally unusual for most of history. There are graves of women buried with weapons and some even died of battle injuries. Generally it's less settled cultures that are more equal between men and women, so steppe nomads, Scandinavian and some native tribes of the Americas.

Even in Hunter/gatherer societies, and other less technologically Advanced civilizations, the gender roles of men and women were fairly set, with Men being the warriors. Most instances of women being part of the warrior class or involving themselves in the battlefield (outside of nursing, or animal care) are rather rare And unique circumstances, such as divisions from God, given To Joan of arc, Or Budacca Leading the Celtics In defense. Very few societies have seen women as viable warriors, and Was not practiced on any widescale, of any halfway successful society throughout history. It did happen, it was very rare, and most instances were not simply a woman saying that she wanted to join the battle, but came as a necessity or special circumstance.

I think people overstate that notion of more equal Scandinavian societies. Most of the Scandinavian population was already having troubles living on that land and that fact already enforced a more rigid social structure, particularly in the role of the woman as a mother to a future helping hand in the farm, women in the nobility had more options but it was the same. In fact, the "viking" culture glorified so much today came as a necessity during desperate times when the land wasn't enough to sustain their families. Women acting as warriors were probably an exception made in desperate times rather than an option in life
