Re: reading “classics” for yourself - when something is designated as “canon” it creates a false sense that they are difficult because someone said they were important. But it’s always good to remember that they were originally written for a general audience, perhaps even to be read aloud to the rest of the family in the evenings, and in some cases were nearly forgotten as the public’s reading tastes changed over time. I think you’ll be good ❤

I swear I think I read somewhere that Frieda McFadden is a doctor and she writes her books in a simplified way so that people with traumatic brain injuries can grasp them, don’t quote me on that but maybe that’s the reason you’re not in love with her writing! Either way your videos make my day so much better! 💕

Wuthering Heights is actually an insane book! I went in thinking it was going to be a Charlotte Bronte or Jane Austen vibe but Emily Bronte blew me away. I was very invested in the story but also just awestruck in what the book is about lol

you should definitely start with jane eyre! i would say that pride and prejudice + wuthering heights have harder writing styles. jane eyre is simpler but also just a great story with romance, mystery and gothic elements! the only thing i’d say is you need to push yourself through the first 80 ish pages because they can be kind of boring but i promiseeee it picks up. it’s my fav classic if you can’t tell lol.

YAY so excited for the reading classics video! I’d say check tw for the bell jar! Some tips for classics, I’d say it’ll make more sense if you research the historical context of them a bit like Animal Farm. I usually like watching KZbin analysis videos to further understand it! Also take your time reading it and don’t rush 🫶🏻🫶🏻 can’t wait to hear your thoughts!!
@ydaliah047 ай бұрын
Also I like watching reading vlogs of the classics to hear others opinions and takeaways. Last tip lol it’s easier if you work your way backwards in time when first starting classics! It’s hard to jump into a book from the 1800s. So I’d recommend start with Narina, the bell jar, and animal farm before Jane Austen and Charles Dickens! - (coming from an English Major/ ELA teacher with love 🫶🏻🩷)

Genuinely so excited for your classic books video! Take your time to read them, they're not as bingeable as contemporary romance but they pack a punch! Personally I love classics, but I tend to alternate them with something lighter to change the mood and rythm, otherwise it's too dense for me.

Destiny I'm 35 and from the UK and so many of those books you bought are books or authors I studied at school! I think that we automatically dislike books for the most part that we HAVE to read for school especially because there's pressure attached to it to get a good grade. I have a very specific example of this for me... we studied Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale at A level and I HATED it I thought it was terrible but now that I'm older and I don't HAVE to read that book I think that book and specifically the story is crazy good and thought provoking. Love your content and you are definitely smart enough to read all those books so don't worry!

Major tip about the Binding 13. No one hold me responsible if you try it and it doesn’t work for you. I’ve gotten the Bloom Boys of Tommen as they’ve released and got the rainbow spines. A week and a half to two weeks ago I woke up to find my drink had spilled and gotten on the spine and it was expanded and noticeable. I looked to try and buy it 2nd hand but whoa dang. I didn’t want it that bad. I’d looked on Amazon but the photo was no displayed with the spine showing so I figured they were only printing black spine editions. Thats when I had the bright idea to go through my previous orders and used “Buy Again.” My hope was that somehow someway it would trick the system. Got the book a couple of days later and it was the colorful spine. I was shocked and pleased. So yea, before anyone goes and spends $50+ dollars on a second hand copy, try this first and if it doesn’t work then you can always send it back and get a refund.

If you're getting into C.S Lewis non-fiction there are sooo many good ones to start with! My personal favourite is probably The Screwtape Letters but it can be a little intense for some readers so honestly not sure if you would start with it haha. Also recommend The Four Loves - super interesting and different out takes on the types of love. I haven't read it yet but A Grief Observed seems really good too, it follows the death of his wife so I imagine it would be really emotional
