Did some research on natural cycles when they had the first round of influencers doing a lot of paid advertising and the main takeaway is it’s a good option if you wouldn’t be unhappy with getting pregnant. My dad (54) has an unplanned 3 year old and two 1 year old twins. They were using natural cycles as a hormone free option 😅 I also don’t know if ethically it’s ok to pay influencers for medical related products - it doesn’t feel very responsible (feedback directed at them as a company, not the influencers)

I used natural cycles BY THE BOOK like, spot on, exactly correctly, because i didnt want to be on hormonal contraception anymore. I just celebrated my 1 year olds first birthday 🙃 can confirm: i was using NC as contaception 😂 wouldnt change it for the world, Juniper is the best thing ever to happen to me, but i think people need to be aware that you can be very careful and use it correctly and still end up pregnant. And I know that's the case with the pill, but I was hit and miss with the pill for 10 years with no pregnancy scares, 1 year with condoms without pregnancy scares, and a few months into NC was pregnant.

Natural cycles only makes sense if you are OKAY with getting pregnant, which is why most doctors don't recommend it. A better non-hormonal contraception is the copper coil (i don't know what y'all call it in UK). However it can cause heavier bleeding when on your period as well as worse cramps. Otherwise it's good old condoms.

*copper coil, maybe this was a typo? Copper as in the metal. But agreed, this seems a risky thing to promote…

I’ve had not one but TWO friends now get accidentally pregnant from natural cycles. I also spoke to my gp about it when i came off the pill and the nurse said she would only recommend it when used alongside a method of birth control such as the coil, condoms, the pill etc. Just a PSA…

On another note, I think you should add some information on using natural cycles as a backup to using condoms as well, I don't think that using this method as a standalone contraceptive is enough especially for people going through hormonal changes f.ex. weight fluctuations, high stress levels etc. I think it is a great way to get to know better your own body but as a contraceptive method, not so sure

Hey, I had a friend accidentally get pregnant using this method and she was very careful to use it correctly so just something to consider. Obviously no method of contraception is 100% but most people I've spoken who use/want to use this method have it as like a back up and then they also use a condom. You might be doing this obviously I don't know but it was very traumatic for my friend so just thought I'd give the general advice to anyone reading

Slightly judging her for doing an ad for something that is so risky and could lead to life changing circumstances in people's relationships. Thank you for your disclaimer and I hope people do read your comment before following her ad!

I have used Natural Cycle for years and really like it. But I would recommend it more for people trying to get pregnant/learn about their fertile period. If you are trying to avoid pregnancy, I would still recommend a double method (natural cycles + condom or something else). Also, because it’s pretty sensitive: if you don’t sleep well, if you’re hangover or if you don’t measure at the exact same window of time every day, it won’t be precise. For the hustle, I think it’s better if you’re putting the work towards getting pregnant. I think it’s a great brand/product, it just need a bit a disclaimer. I hope it helps.

@@doctordonnanoble I don't really appreciate this comment tbh. She didn't make the decision alone, her partner made it as well, and I don't feel okay with the idea of judging her for what she was under the impression was a very safe method of contraception. What she went through after she found out she was pregnant was very traumatic and she would never have done something she thought would lead her to that. Even if she was being reckless, which I don't believe, we've known each other since we were 7, I would never place judgement on her because I have nothing but respect and admiration for the strength she's shown.

@@duck6100 I think we are looking at the ad from different perspectives. Absolutely no judgement from me for her choosing this method of birth control, it is her life and I really appreciate that she shares her life so candidly with us viewers. What I have an issue with is the monetary gain for this advertisement, she's getting paid a substantial amount of money from the company to recommend the app to her viewers, and unlike an ad for a VPN or a product you don't need but won't harm you, this could directly hurt the viewers who trust her completely. Getting pregnant unintentionally is terrifying and will change your entire life. So yes, I slightly judge her for choosing to make monetary gains from something that could unintentionally hurt - really hurt- those who trust her recommendations. Again, I support her in her life and her choices, however in this case she is making money recommending it to us - and that makes it different. That is why I have slight issues with this ad. I'm really glad that your comment is the highest upvoted, in hopes that people who are considering the app as their form of birth control can see the warning, so they can make an informed decision.

This is why I don’t switch. I’m not in any way shape or form ready for a child, and this method does not seem secure enough for my own ease of mind. 🤷🏽‍♀️

For the green silk dress, I would add a nude fabric underneath the bust to cover up a bit more to avoid anything showing but then you can still see and keep the design as is!

I haven't used a specific app or anything, but I track my cycle in this way (I have a very predictable cycle) and I have found a lot of success using this method. It also is useful for when you ARE trying to get pregnant! I've had 2 babies and married 5 years and it has worked for us, both preventing and getting pregnant. But you gotta keep track of things for sure! Not for everyone but I am a fan.

I hated being on the pill. I've been on Nuvaring for over a decade now and it has been life changing. I used to not be able to leave my house for the first two days of my period and now I haven't had a period for at least 9 years. It feels wonderful to be this free ❤

Genuine fertility awareness method is one of the most effective contraceptive choices. The problem is the perfect use versus average use statistics. It’s roughly 99.5% vs 72%. It’s highly dependant on the individual and the consistency they show to check cervical mucus, temperature, and other signs like cervical position every day, plus how much research they’ve done into it. Natural cycles isn’t as comprehensive and thus has more room to fail. It’s still a great way to introduce people to their bodily cues and would work great for folks who aren’t deadset against getting pregnant.

the CDC has information about the effectiveness of different contraceptives when used correctly and fertility awareness based methods resulted in 24% of women becoming pregnant within the first year of use. it’s similar to withdrawal which is around 22% whereas the pill is 9% and an IUD is 0.2% or 0.8% depending on the type. BC is a very individual choice and it’s good to take effectiveness into consideration when choosing what’s right for you :)

Hiya - a friend’s girlfriend recently got pregnant recently and had to have an abortion, and they were using this method. Whether they were using Natural Cycles or not, I don’t know. But it’s something to be aware of, that it might not be on the dot completely, and if in doubt, use a condom. Not to be annoying, I swear. Just that the experience was painful for them, and this method, Whilst being hormone-free (love that for u btw) it’s not 100000% safe. Xx

Hey! Thank you for sending this, and I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. I'm taking as many precautions as I can -- I've been advised to track my discharge and other fertility indicators in the app, and to use condoms for the first three months of tracking. I'm also lucky to have a regular cycle, which makes things slightly more predictable! Again, so sorry to hear about your friend and thank you for sharing her story xx

I’m glad you had some luck in the end! I have really got into charity shops in my 20’s, but can easily go into 3 or 4 and find zilch. Normally it’s Oxfam that is the 🌟 for me. I got an Italian linen shirt for my dad’s Father’s Day present and it was only £4.99. When some shops are charging that amount for a supermarket version , I do feel like the effort is worth it! Re your slip dress at the end- seeing as it fits your proportions perfectly, I would stay with the ‘dress’. x

Lucy you are really clever person but come on…. This natural cycles thing is really not wise!!! Totally fair for you to use it yourself, but maybe it shouldn’t be an ad and you can just keep it to yourself? While you do preface it as not being right for everyone, young impressionable viewers might think that this is a good idea and then wind up pregnant. I don’t think I have ever commented on a video before but sorry this is just completely bonkers.

It's not for everyone, and there are obvious risks that come with it, but I have been married for 7 years and used natural cycle tracking throughout my whole marriage and never got pregnant until last year, when my husband and I decided to try for a baby and I got pregnant right away. I'm now 4 weeks away from giving birth.

I had to come off the pills 3 years ago (after 5 years). I knew about natural contractions at the time but I’m so anxious about getting pregnant, I could never. It seems like a lot of work, and remembering to take the pill already was too much for me ! I went for the copper coil which is the best option for me. I didn’t have heavy or painful period before and I found a gentle obgyn for the insertion. I needed a method where I would have nothing to remember, ut I know not everyone can be on non hormonal coil ! It’s a journey !

Loving the thrifting content but please be careful about promoting apps like Natural Cycles as an alternative to birth control because they are very much not 😞 they’ve had ads banned in the UK for false claims, and there’s a growing far right movement against hormonal birth control that’s worth keeping an eye on. Really like your content but this is a huge red flag for me!

A perfect use of 99% is ten times worse than other methods like the implant (in the arm) which has a 99.9% use. With NC, 1/100 users can expect to get pregnant each year. With the implant, 1/1000 can expect to get pregnant in a year. The perfect use rates of NC come from a study on their existing app users, not a randomised population trial. This means that they have already to a degree self-selected a type of person who felt they have a regular cycle, can wake up at the same time each day, not lose their phone, and keep track of their discharge in addition etc. Not everyone suits regularly taking the pill and typical use reflects that. I had to stop the pill because my IBS was bad enough that I wasn't absorbing it multiple days a month for example. Basal temperature is impacted by having had a glass of wine the night before, coming down with a cold, and stress. I really support anyone who wants to get to know their cycle better but please use condoms as well, I know two people who got pregnant using natural cycles 😬 Doctors are told not to recommend NC (by NC!) if the patient would be distressed if they became pregnant in the next year. I think that question should be flagged up for every potential user before they pay.
