The thing I noticed about the original recording is you could hear quite a bit of the instrumentals but it's not perfectly synced and the quality is a little faded and you mostly hear the bass, the drums and the horn section and you don't really hear the guitar part in there. Plus with this enhanced version you could hear all the instrumentals super clean and super clear and perfectly synchronized.

With a lifelong career in the music business it would be incredibly hard to say a song is in my all-time top 10 pop hits but this just may be one of them. That first descending bass line literally sparked my longtime love for the bass. I always considered The Four Seasons to be the American Beatles (even more than The Beach Boys, who I adore). They were masters at crafting songs with a similar structure as The Beatles - this song being a perfect example as it opens with the chorus preceded by an intro, a signature George Martin device that he infused into Beatles songs right from the earliest ones. The Four Seasons did exactly the same thing on "Bye Bye Baby," another of my favorites. Thanks for taking this one on, Kenn. A pop masterpiece.

Larry, you said it and I could not agree with you more. I’m a big fan of The Beach Boys but the Four Seasons are number one in my book as one of the great all American Bands but never ever are credited as such. Imagine had The Beach Boys released 3 number one records in a row they would even be talked about even more, but it took the Four Seasons to do this, while being fully self contained.

@@georgemusic4all4seasons Thank you for the kind feedback! Yes, I do hold The Beach Boys in extremely high regard and believe Brian Wilson is a true songwriting genius. I'm a big fan of The Wrecking Crew, as I've pointed out in many comments here, and they did some of their best work on those records. They deservedly get credit for their role in American music history. But, yes, The Four Seasons never get the recognition I believe they deserve. For me, The Beach Boys entered my musical life in the mid 60s, as they no doubt did for many people, with California Girls and Help Me Rhonda (I still have the 45s) in 1965, Wouldn't it Be Nice and God Only Knows in 1966, and Good Vibrations in 1967. Yes, they had hits before '65 but by then The Four Seasons were already drilled into my brain with Rag Doll and Dawn in 1964 followed by Let's Hang On and Bye Bye Baby in 1965. I bought all those 45s, along with the albums, before I discovered The Beach Boys. Maybe it's just that their music came along first in our house but, other than The Beatles, they helped form my musical sensibilities and those songs hold a very special and warm place in my heart to this day.

Frank Vali had the most UNUSUAL, UN-EARTHLY falseto style in his voice that really PUNCHED UP the backing harmonies that were as smooth as the Beach Boys. And when they hit their power chords, your just moved, and were swept away in the song. Really fun band & terrific easy songs!

I always enjoy the graphics you add to your videos. What's not to like about the four seasons. The original guys were from my neighborhood of Newark NJ. For so many years I often ran into others who also knew them in their early days. I think Bobby Valli still occasionally performs small venues. 🎶👍

For a group like this to contrast the smooth intro with a trashy sounding fuzz box, that’s so classic. That’s my favorite riff outta the whole 60’s besides Clapton’s in Sunshine of your Love,” ha!

I remember buying this album in mono. One day I noticed the label was coming off the cover and I peeled back the border to discover that there were two versions of the cover - one that said monaural and one that said stereo. They'd use the same label but reposition it slightly. That's how I found out there were also stereo versions. This was back when few people owned a stereo. They were generally mixed for monaural since that's what people had. It's one reason the stereo versions sound so poor.

Besides the fortune of having Frankie Valli as their lead singer, these guys always had great production and harmonies on their records. Your version does them proud. Rag Doll next?

nice drumming ''
@cinematic353 жыл бұрын
Guess what. The last part of every enhanced part is always the drums I have to replay. I'm never in the mood to do it either cause I just spent 4 hours doing the music tracks. When I finished all the guitar, keyboard and vocal enhancements I realized that the drums were so buried that it just would not sound right unless I brought those drums back up in the front where they belong. I learned that from George Martin who always kept all instrumentation up front and balanced on the Beatles recordings. I had to decide whether to put the drums part on the opposite channel (right) or track it on top of the original on the left. Since there was a loud and clear tambourine on the right channel I went with the decision to put the replayed drums on the left. These are the decisions that have to be made so as not to destroy the beauty of the original. I don't have hours to experiment and figure it out--I have to make the decisions of instrument tracks in minutes and have it work first time around. What a crazy hobby! Kenn

ken; a while back you mentioned that you were no longer going to have your visuals on your enhanced songs any longer due to possible copyright issues. over the enjoyment of the songs, i've always enjoyed your visuals. glad to see their return. what transpired?
@cinematic353 жыл бұрын
Good question. I took a good look at what was being banned for copyright violation and it was almost always a high resolution photo from a publication which is probably why 35 of my ABBA were banned. So I decided that to stay on the safe side I will display the album covers , 45 record labels & jackets/ foreign and domestic, CD, cassettes, posters etc. which does not seem to pose a problem so far. It does take an extra 3 hours to make the video but it makes it more entertaining and even educational. I might try to post up some of that ABBA again without any photos--that was some of my very best work. The thing about this is when a video gets blocked KZbin does not give me the specific reason why. They just say it was banned for copyright violation--of what, the enhanced version of the audio or the photos displayed in the video. Your are left to guess on that one. Kenn

The horns seem extra legato. The buzz guitar isn't as noticeable but was it just to mimic the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction success? It may not have originally been wanted. Was Mike Chapman the original producer? This is way more elegant.
