Super fun and cool video. Filling hexes can get repetative for any DM after a while. The random choices are fuel for the imagination.

Yeah it can, especially if you're adding more than one point per hex. But the tables keep it fresh!

Extremely practical and helpful advice. I would be interested in a tutorial on using Notion for this, and if you could provide a blank template with the various categories set up, that would be unbelievably useful!

I could try to do one eventually. I need to fill in some of the hexes around it so I have more ideas for where the rumors can originate and point to.

This has been the most helpful video on creating hexes that I’ve come across. I’ve been feeling very overwhelmed and lost trying to create my first crawl. I was having trouble learning where to start and how to develop it. Using this video, I created my first hex last night and it all came together so wonderfully. It made me excited to continue. I now have an outline on how to create a hex from beginning to end and make it interesting.

I created two big lists of major & minor points of interest. Then i can roll for what's in the hex (if i didn’t already put something there) & put its index on the map. So i have a master map that’s clean & a copy with numbers scattered across it where the PCs have explored.

A thought that came to me for the mercury-sap of the trees is that if a portion of that sap compound got into the local water table and then flowed to the lakes, that could be a source of their name: a very thin film of that compound could give the water a mirror-like reflective quality.
@Earthmote3 ай бұрын
Great idea! I had originally named them the mirror lakes because they mirror another reality (the demi plane those beings now exist in). But I like it when there are multiple meanings & interpretations to the same thing.

You make great videos that I am learning a lot from. Point of order: I am someone who watches your videos on headphones. When you bump something, I think your desk, your microphone picks it up and in my headphones it sounds like something going bump in _my_ house (this is because lower frequency audio is harder to localize from the brain, a product of psychoaucoustics). I'd appreciate it if you could fix that problem somehow, as I would like to stay relaxed watching these videos and not inadvertently get startled by you ;^^

Have you thought of making the notes you use for your campaign into a Notion template and sharing it? When I saw your database I was both amazed at how organized everything was and intimidated by the vastness of it. I think having a template to go off of would save a lot of time and anxiety. I love your videos and thanks for inspiring and teaching me to make my first sandbox campaign!
@Earthmote4 ай бұрын
Thanks, I’m glad you found it helpful! Yes, I have been making a template in the background. In hopes of sharing it or selling it for a couple of dollars. It takes some time to get it right though and I don’t have a timeline on when that would be ready to go.

I'm confused, many people in the comments there claim that this set of tiles has issues when used in Hex Kit specifically. Did you run into any of these issues, if so, how did you fix them? And did you buy/download the hex tiles recently or a long time ago?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to handle subhexing. If you have multiple points of interest within a hex, how do you handle players deciding to go to one versus the other, and how that subdivides the 6 miles that a hex represents? Sure, each hex is 6 miles, but what if they get stopped at mile 1, and then change direction for two more miles, then change direction again... How do you handle that subdivision? Do you just eschew anything granular WITHIN your hexes and allow them free access? Do you just say, "You're in the hex, so you can freely go to any location WITHIN the hex without additional travel. If you wish to go to a location within a DIFFERENT hex, you must travel 6 miles."

So, would you say that Notion is your preferred Hextech?

Do you use subhex in your prep?

I do not, I just use the 6 mile hex level usually. I haven't felt the need to get that granular. But I think plenty of people use them!
