Black Lotus gives three mana of any _one_ color. It always bugged me that it gave three different heart types. Three black hearts would make more sense. Or three hearts of a random type to confer the "any color" part, but it would turn the item into a gamble, which is less flavorful because using Black Lotus is never a gamble

I've got a pretty interesting idea for a black lotus rework. In MTG, black lotus works as a land that gives you 3 of any land color. Why not make it so black lotus drops one of every heart, but you can only choose 3 of them. That way you keep it's original effect while spicing it up

So I think an interesting update for Black Lotus here is to simply do away with it being an HP upgrade and make it an item that fires additional tears (Kinda like Conjoined) with 1 of 5 effects that changes randomly each room: Booger -> Green Dark Matter -> Black Fire Mind -> Red Aquarius Creep -> Blue Holy Light -> White Then give it a 0.5 tears up. Probably make it Quality 3, but it would revive the item, even if it's not the original effects.

Said card gives you 3 mana of any color at 0 activation cost. So it perfectly makes sense it gives you three full hearts in Isaac, one for every mana color there is in common with MTG (mana colors are RGB, white, black).

An Idea I have for Black lotus is to play into its origin being super rare. What if it has an effect similar to Voodoo doll and Luna which adds rooms, but the room that it add is a guaranteed ultra rare room per floor. As it is, the 3 heart health up is boring. I understand the Black lotus card gives 3 of any color mana so they went for 3 of different color hearts, but that feels so uninspired. I also find a lot of the super rare rooms quite fun to discover and being able to see them more often sounds fun to me.

My suggestion to buff Black Lotus it's that gives you 99cents when pick. For those who don't know Black Lotus is the most iconic MTG card, that gives you 3 Mana of any color (that's the Hearth effect) and is incredible expensive, so having a original copy of Black Lotus means that you got a lot of money in your hands. Or other than that it could just drop you one of the four MTG cards that are already in the game, which are generally speaking the stronger pool of cards in the game. Reverse cards have better ones, but there is a lot more in the pool, and only a few of them are amazing.
