Of course, he was the hero of that battle...in that village...with the lady...and 30 horseman along a tiny bridge...then boom. Which they called "war". Serious, the writers/directors really struggle with representing scale, which is critically important for that type of show. These weakness apparently were not addressed at all for S2, and they kept the same director. So I am not optimistic about S3, even with the change of team.

Being stabbed in the heart and falling off a cliff is nothing after surviving a pyroclastic flow. I'm just surprised she didn't get up immediately... Really, in modern entertainment, stabbing, by crown, lightsaber, dirty orc sword, etc., is rarely fatal. One thing that could have made the balrog going back to sleep make sense, is if he kept the ring on or put it on and when the Balrog swings it hits the ring and it explodes killing the king but knocking out the balrog. It was right there. It's established that the lesser rings can be destroyed.

It seems like every scene has been written with no knowledge of what happened to the characters in the last scene they were in. But this happens within the same too, reminds me of playing as a kid where we’d change what was going on “make it so that…”.
