Twee, sweet language while having unintentional dark or messed up implications sounds like the ground work for a good satire about these types of works.

This was a fantastic chat ! I actually much preferred this over Iron Gold (potentially fav in the series) but man it was bleak haha Also Volga is a perfect person !

Spoilers I loved zhe first two. But not the last one I missed the court intrigue that was there in the first two books It became nore like quest epic type. There was no balance I felt third one should have given importance to patience and burrich...one who wants her dead husbands kegacy to go on by rallying inlanders to fight the raiders ... the other burrich wanting to avenge his dead son figure qnd finally accepting to use his wit to find verity release the elder lings and finally kill regal

Ah this was the discussion I needed about Rain Wild Chronichles! I feel similarly that many people weren’t fully appreciating the themes that Hobb focused on; particularly surrounding motherhood and consequence. One of my favorite aspects of the series was how much characters grew and changed; in both likable and unlikeable ways.

11:54 you're being so vague the video is borderline unwatchable, I can't even begin to think what your talking about. Idea, don't do a breakdown on 3 book about why they don't work for you if you aren't going to do spoilers. 15:08 oh this is a gotcha video trying to get use to pay for a patreon ... lame bad first impression

One thing that could have made the balrog going back to sleep make sense, is if he kept the ring on or put it on and when the Balrog swings it hits the ring and it explodes killing the king but knocking out the balrog. It was right there. It's established that the lesser rings can be destroyed.

couldnt agree with you morem especially on the worldbuilding front! im very nitpicky about how a fantasy world is built (big fan of ryoko kui and frances hardinge here) and babel wrestles so hard to integrate silver into the lives of its characters but preserve it as an allegory that it fails once kuang explained it and it turned out to be so simplisitic - simply writing words on a silver bar. what about maybe using semiotics to restrict the access of languages to the layman even further? what are the properties of silver that allow this? could a commentary be made on the sourcing of silver itself, a direct link to silver mines in the british colonies? i went into this book with very high expectations of how the world would be shaped, which is my fault in the end i suppose i can't deny that some parts of the story really resonated with me as a hongkonger currently studying in the uk (i loved the opium war&diplomacy bit and i hope that made more people learn about that area of history) but it disappointed me so much in terms of its plot and its characters and its aggravating prose and footnotes that i can't bring myself to be more than a bit lukewarm about it

I made it through the Assassin's trilogy (barely) but I am really struggling with the Live Ship trilogy. There are a lot of characters in play but I can't find a single one to root for aside from the ship herself. I agree with the suffering and dumb decisions comments. It was cover to cover in Assassin's and so far, Live ship is the same. It's constant and there is never a break from it. I've heard the Live Ship series gets better in book 2. I hope so.

I think that Mistborn was good, second series is better when it comes to humour and Victorianesque vibe. I prefer the Stormlight Achive over Mistborn series 1 though. But you shouldn’t probably listen to me as my favourite Sanderson book is Elantris.

I’m a Polish woman and I didn’t like the Uprooted. The castle part was totally random and the love interest abusive. However, I’m glad I gave the author one more chance because I totally loved Spinning Silver. It was everything I hoped Uprooted will be when it comes to culture and vibes.

I have 2 romantasy recommendations u can read the synopsis for and determine if u want to give it a try. They don't have great pros but I liked the plot. The first one is A Drop of Venum. That's a Medusa retelling. And the other one is The Reader. I liked the world more than the story but I liked the ending. It's a Trilogy and the theme is about can you change your fate.

I love the series, despite the occasional intrusiveness of Goodkind's politics. Like, he spends a WHOLE BOOK (book 6) teaching us that capitalism is good and communism is bad. He spends a WHOLE BOOK (book 8, which came out shortly after the invasion of Iraq in 2003) teaching us that war is good and anti-war protesters don't deserve to live. Also I believe the lesson of book 5 was that democracy doesn't work?

Sooo... You followed BotNS with Knight/Wizard; a fine work of literature... but also Wolfe in his twilight years. I'm happy to hear You're going for the Latro series. Those are basically THE Greek mythology fantasy stories (take that, Kratos!) as well as a brilliant reversal of Sev's condition: a protagonist wo keeps forgetting. Still, I hope that at some point You'll get to his other two masterpieces - The Fifth Head of Cerberus novella trilogy and above all Peace.
