@victorcates93305 ай бұрын
It's a weird pitch. Maybe babbling enthusiastically and stringing together different existing properties can baffle an executive. But given the cited budget, it needs to be a pitch SOOOOO good that you can hand the reins of a multi billion dollar franchise over to someone who is - in genre terms - an absolute newbie, and then not add oversight. For instance, telling them, we'll give you X million for a writing process and you see the rest when we see a finished script. Unless Headland was able to hire people who were super green (or who were her friends), it seems weird that there was no grizzled veteran on hand looking around, frowning, thinking "This seems.... messy." Maybe the accountant is standing in the corner looking confused and thinking "Why is the acting so bad? Why would you hire Carrie Anne Moss and barely use her? If I speak up I'll probably get fired." If the budget is remotely accurate, then 180 million dollars isn't something where you can say "I guess that kind of got away from us". THe pitch is the initial filtering process. But you have dozens of additionally checks and points at which you can add quality controls.

They are both LGBTQ women, L was HW’s assistant, and L has all the power in this (lord, I hope it is only professional) relationship. @@triciacarr5019 the whole “The Acolyte” was built on a rotten foundation of Leslye’s fantasies/revenge against people who oppressed her young lgbtq self growing up (her perception of it anyway) + her hand-picking quite an unknown actress to play TWO lead characters. Did Amandla have the realistic option to say no thanks and keep her career intact? + Being fair to Leslye, what is her previous experience? Why is anybody giving inexperienced people the power of a show runner? It is basically setting them up for failure. This also applies to She hulk, Rings of power, Velma, and IIRC the Witcher and Ms. Marvel. It’s very difficult to try to understand what Hollywood executives are thinking. What happened to the lightsaber is a new thing called "bleeding" which is an attempt to explain why Sith sabers are red and not because the crystals are synthetic. Basically the sith forces dark side energy into the crystal to change it's composition from whatever color it was ro red. But it's such a taxing ordeal, that it nearly killed Darth fucking Vader. And Osha was able to do it effortlessly.

@@RoySATX You hit on what I think the biggest problem with recent Disney handling of these IPs. The works that made them beloved were universal. Everyone could relate to them in some way. I may relate to it differently than you, and for different reasons. We could apply it to our experiences in meaningful ways, and then be united in our appreciation for that. What Headland has done here is make it so personally applicable to just her specific experience that if you do not share that exact experience, it is meaningless and doesn't connect. Making a small, intimate story that expresses the creator to the audience is fine for a personal project or art film. It's terrible as the tentpole series for a new era of stories in a broadly universal IP.

The "A$$olyte" was an INCREDIBLE example of precisely what not to do when approaching storytelling. Lack of dramatic structure, no legitimate character arcs, weak or non-existent thematic underpinnings, cheesy "world-building" that really ignored what GL had already long established, and basically zero literary/cinematic techniques being employed. But that's how it goes when people PRETEND that they magically understand proper storytelling. And the results are obvious.

A budget comparison; Dune 2= 190 million. Acolyte=180 million. Considering the average episode length of this "series", there is not a substantial difference in the run time between the 2 properties. Look at the difference between them. How is this possible? DSW really shit the bed on this show. And it has nothing to do with social agendas, etc. It simply a poorly written, acted, directed series.

I am sorry, the unarmed comment, it is true that the Jedi never attack someone who is un-armed, but unless some work is put in, a force user is never considered un-armed normally as the force in the hands of a darkside user is a weapon they will use, and in a light side user, is a tool they will fight with, so it is even dumber.

i think the "message" Headland and the "creative writers" wanted to carry missed the mark. All i take from this show... if 2 little girls are raised by an all women cult, they ALL turn out as stone cold killers.... Also Vaenestra blaiming all Jedi deaths on Sol doesn't fly for even a second... there are witnesses of who killed Trinity and The Last Airbender and is the death of Harry Henderson even confirmed? i mean the show only lets Mae and Darth Alienhelmet know, that the Wookie is dead... no-one else checked on him on screen... oh, one afterthought about Leslie Headland: She was the personal assistant of Harvey Weinstein for years... so either she was in the known and covered for his behavior and crimes, or she was so incompetent, to not notice... So what is it lesley... are you covering for a criminal or are you incompetent? Neither would be my first pick to give a Star Wars show... nor the 8 billionth...

48:14 There actually is *not* an explanation for that! The reason that bad guys have red sabers is because they take a normal kyber crystal and basically torture the semi-sentient rock until it capitulates to their will. Later generation Sith famously do this with kyber from lightsabers that are owned by jedi that they've killed and bend these tiny collections of the force to their will in a process known as bleeding. It is an intentional act that takes time and effort, not something that can be done like... *that*
@trite46542 ай бұрын
In the new Disney canonical Star wars comic, Darth Vader himself really struggles to make his bleed. But teenage space witch who's hardly a Jedi can do it in an instant because she's got so much angst you guys. Fyi, that Darth Vader comic is actually pretty good. Bleeding the crystal is so hard that Anakin gets a vision where he realizes everything he did and goes to confront the emperor as a Jedi again

So, tiny note, the helmet shutting off the lightsabers IS actually a pretty cool deep cut.
