Bob, at some point in the video you said that a concert can be "super fun". I asked a few BR speakers about 'super' before adjectives and they said: 1. It is not strictly grammatical, so for that reason you can use it anywhere you like (as it is 'incorrect' in any case). I suggest avoid using it. 2. Widespread use of "super" + adjective is in my experience a recent phenomenon that's limited to younger speakers, so some people may see it as slangy. Like Chez, I think it's best avoided. 3. To me it sounds patronisingly enthusiastic. 4. I agree with the others, it should be super avoided. What do you think? Is this AE, CE?
@LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian5 жыл бұрын
Using super in this way is very common in spoken English and has been for a super long time. :)
@english-is-fun5 жыл бұрын
@@LearnEnglishwithBobtheCanadian Yeah, I did some further research and it is indeed American English. The British find it annoying :) The British sometimes use it as an adjective meaning great, excellent, e.g. "It was a super restaurant.", which, in turn, Americans don't. So the use of super is totally different between AE and BE.

Hi, bob. This is Carton from China. Thank you for your fantastic videos! I’ve learnt a lot from you. Now I want to chat with you about music. Well, my favorite foreign singer is Avril Lavigne who is also a Canadian. She is very talented and her voice is unique as well as powerful. I started to know the foreign pop music just through her. Although these years she seldom dropped new albums due to some physical reasons, I still always listen to her songs and I hope she can make more excellent music after she recovers. In addition, I have listened to some rap music recently, because rap music has been very popular in China these years. About two years ago, there was a TV show called and after this program, Chinese rappers started to perform in the public from underground, and more and more people especially teenagers began to know and love this type of music. I think rap music has its own glamour, for example, its rhythms and real attitudes of singers. It is very cool. And I believe the future of Chinese rap music is bright.
