Ryan, suspension cables are used to connect two towers to one point at a lower level to create a tougher support or one tower to incrimentally smaller towers to create an upwards tension to allow for self support. Not to connect to the ground, that is for normal cables, and let just droop to provide no support what-so-ever.

tips for northernlion (a.k.a. dummies) 1) metal bars can take less tension than cables, but they also can take compression. 2) cables take a ton of tension, but they don't take compression 3) unless it's anchored to the ground, anything below the bridge does not help it stay up. at best, it might help the iron road stay together 4) always build outside of the bridge if you can. not only is it a natural anchor point, it's also weightless

@SuperFailism12 жыл бұрын
You are not imagining the suspension cables as ropes because you are stretching them so the bridge moves without the cables taking any of the load. The reason they give you suspension cables is to use the other cables to support the bridge.

The big thing you needed for that drawbridge to work was something to anchor it on the sides of the road, instead of just having it floating in space. The design you undid had large anchors on the left and right which held it up
@LatinD12 жыл бұрын
So, cables cannot be compressed, they only take tension. So use steel to build a structure from where to hang then. The idea is to use to cable to move the weight towards the steel. Also, when building structures with steel or wood or anything else, form triangles.

NorthernLion man, you need to build supports from the top of the bridge corners to the earth anchor points behind where you are building with steel. Also to use regular cable effectively, string suspension cable across a good length then add regular cable to its sections to make it taught. I'm glad my degrees are coming in handy somewhere lol.

Northernlion, you are correct. This game is a remake of an older Game. I actually played the original (which didn't even have 3d graphics, it was just the stress-bars, and 4 rectangles moving across for a train). It was called "Bridge Builder" or something I believe?
