Ladies back then had many constraints on their time and purse, just as we do. Home sewers were not above using shortcuts and would leave things off a homemade dress to save time and money. I sew myself and have seen a number of corner cutters on very old garments.

I cannot believe the number of layers that women had to wear in the past. SMH I'm glad we no longer have to wear that many layers.

штанишки под низ надевали. конкретно про российских барышень поищите в гугле, они по меньшей мере носили мех. ну и как упоминалось, всякие шерстяные подштанники и подъюбники+ кофточки
