Let's Look At My Live Rig - Steve Vai Carvin Legacy - Friedman BE 100 - My Guitars And Pedals!

In this video we take a look at my live rig. This is my current setup for what I use with my 80's ard rock/metal band. I may seem like a lot, but I assure you... it's for "tone" lol. In all seriousness, that's the truth. Please excuse the poor cable management in this video. I was really just working on the rig and testing everything out. This is the "science lab" before we go to war. I also show the guitars I will be using for an upcoming gig along with my pedal selections. I also run a sound demo and give a rundown of my tones and FX in both clean and dirty channels. I know a lot of folks like looking at gear so this is for you. I hope you enjoy the video. I love the legacy Vl100. I have one i bought new in 1999 and it's something I'll never sell. Running it into a 3/4 stack a 4x12 loaded with eminence Governors and a 2x12 Open back with a swamp thang and an alnico red fang it is tonal bliss. Especially with the old Charvel I run a DiMarzio fred neck and evolution bridge in. Harmonic ecstasy.

Man, this is cool, I've been using Friedman BE100 for 6 years now, after 6 years of playing on Diezel VH4, Friedman BE100 is now forever!!!🤘 And I also use Hiwatt SE4123 Fane custom speakers at home with cabinet, the sound is more pleasant I understand why many people underestimate Fane speakers?! Friedman together with Hiwatt se4123 sounds very cool! The old school rules!!!🤘 Greetings from Russia!👍👋 No matter how much the number grows in development, but the tube sound is forever!!!

Thats a great rig that you have going there Marty. I think that most of that gear is on our bucket list to be honest 😂. That Murphy lab 😍. I have a phase 90 and love it. That wah sounds really good. That iron curtain is a very interesting pedal, does the job well of splitting the amp sound. Very good clean sound as well. I would love to go to Nashville to watch your band, but it's would take a plane and a nine hour flight to get me there. Good luck with your gig man. 👍

Thanks dude for the rig run down. Nice detail. Truthfully you could play a guitar through any amp and make it sound good. I play through guitar processing amp and turn all the effects on so it hides my playing . Sounds like the 80’s 😂😂😂. Cool video’s seriously. I always learn something from them.

Sounds really good. The clean with tube screamer was really getting SRV thing. Lots of tonal range with that rig. I had two small Bogner 1x12 cabs with V30’s that kicked butt. I had originally got them to use as a stereo wet dry wet with a 4x12, but ended up using just the two more often. Hope the gig goes well!! Love the white shag rug. Definitely use it.😃

Very cool set up. I also love blending 2 Amps. If you want to get rid of that hiss, which occurs when using 2 Amps, then you need an ab switcher with a ground lift like the Lehle Little Dual 2.

I thought I might be the last person using two 100 watt heads 😃 I use an older Carvin X100B for my cleaner stuff and a Marshall JCM 2000 TSL for crunch and lead. Even though my modeler sounds pretty good, my “dinosaur” rig is my go to for sound and feel in a band setting. 😎🎸

Marty, have you tried the ORANGE Amp Detonator for an aby? They have a built-in phase that eliminates a lot of amp noise, they work wonderfully!

I'm in the process of upgrading my Squire Affinity thin body.its got hot pickups, it's a nice guitar it's worthy of the upgrades i had to because the tuners were broken someone must have dropped it and I didn't notice it, it worked fine then I found out that they were broken so I replaced them with lockers and now I'm going to get a brass block for the trim. it already sounds good but we'll see if it makes the sound even better. it should. I'll be glad to get that crappy piece of pot metal out of it and it should have some serious sustain it's about to be delivered so I'll install it and let you know LOL

Just wondering, how are you running a 100w head into a cab that's not rated for 100w (at least not in stock form) without blowing the speaker? Did you put higher wattage speakers in the cabs or are you running the amps at a lower wattage or something?

Just playing Devils Abbocatete........would it not be easier to run the fractal stereo into your dual amp setup?? Reliable. Easy. Easy and Reliable. Flexible. IN fact, the Fractal would be Easy, reliable and Flexable. While the LIne 6 gear is the BEST ever, I think in a live setting you could suffice to play thru the Fractal dual out stereo into those amps. Every guitar should have a floyd rose. If I had my way, it would be FEDERAL LAW that all guitas have a Floyd Rose. Stop tail pieces are for angry liberal youth. Floyd Roses are for grown masculine men with two ballz. Ballz big enough to fill a dump truck.

Good question! The fractal in 4 cable method will allow you to run FX only through the loop and not amp modeling. (No need to use amp modeling when running through amps). The fractal is noisy this way however. And I want to run 2 amps at once. The ax8 only has memory to run one amp patch. The best way to run the fractal is direct front of house and push it through the monitors on stage or in ears. I don't wanna do that for a metal show. I wanna move some air with my amps. Pretty much all I run through my amps is a delay and a cry bay for the occasional wah wah solo.
