I actually heard the physics were so bad BECAUSE they tried to use the Sonic Advance(or was it the Sonic Rush?) engine for it. It works well in Sonic Advance because of the resolution and levels, but when you upscale it to a genesis game and shoehorn it in? That's where the horribleness comes in. So, no. I think this game was awful BECAUSE they used Dimps' engine.

Yeah, except Johnny was judging this as if this is its' own game while Clement however was judging it as a bad remaster of a previous game, exactly how the game should really be judged. Like yeah, imagine if every single gamer you can ever think of judged every single remaster like Johnny does with Sonic Genesis like for example, someone judged Assassin's Creed III Remastered as its' own game rather than a complete updated version of the original 2012 version with all its' DLC include plus Liberation as a bonus game and said that the game was the best AC game to come out of the dark age of Assassin's Creed because keep in mind, Odyssey was the big AC game during the time of the release of AC3 Remastered and it's when people were really looking down on the whole franchise because of the directions it was going. If I ever saw that kinda review for AC3 Remastered from that year, I'd be like "OK, I'm glad you like the game, but you do know that it's not really a brand new AC game, it's a remaster of a previous game and so it doesn't really count as the big savior of the franchise" like it's that kinda urky feeling Clement gets when people say that Sonic Genesis is the worst Sonic game ever when really, it's just a really bad remaster of the original Sonic 1 and so they should really judge it for it being a remaster of a previous game, not its' own thing.

Sonic Riders is a decent game, but it's way too complicated and just... WHAT IS GOING ON?! Sonic 06, on the other hand.. It's a pretty terrible game that promised us great potential.

I disagree with Genesis GBA not being a contender for the worst Sonic game simply because it's awful port of Sonic 1. It's true that there are better versions of Sonic 1, but that doesn't do this game any favors AT ALL, and it certainly doesn't make it any less of a crappily handled game. Not helped by the fact that Stealth (one of the co-developers of the mobile remakes of the Classics, as well as Mania) made his own port of Sonic 1 to the GBA from scratch, and screen resolution aside, it plays exactly like the original. There is no excuse for Genesis GBA being released the way it was. Say what you want about 06. It is its own original piece of shit, but at least it had some things that were appealing or decent enough to enjoy. I can say the same for Shadow the Hedgehog, the Storybook games, Lost World, Boom, and Forces. Genesis GBA has absolutely nothing going for it that any other version delivered on a better scale. It just exists. And combined with the screen crunch, wonky physics, horrendous collision detection, abysmal framerate, and terrible sound mixing, Sonic Genesis GBA can rightfully so be considered the worst Sonic game. And, no, the fact it's a port doesn't make me think otherwise.

Also, at the time, it WAS the first handheld port of Sonic 1, and the first handheld port to boast a save feature. Not as bad as 06? Did 06 have false advertising? Genesis did. It showed screenshots on the back of its case of the original Genesis game. No zoomed in screen, nothing awful that's in the actual game. This game not only showed incompetence, it showed that SEGA was willing to lie to its consumers. I've seen your 06 review, and it's good, but it still hasn't convinced me that 06 is on the same level as Genesis. And yes, I've played it. It's an incompetent remake of Sonic Adventure, nothing more. See, I can make a statement not relating to quality but instead relating to its place in the franchise, too. I like your vids, but this was pretty bad.

Oh, wait, what I said rarely ever happens while early demos being different from the final product happens all the time. It may have been the full $60 when it came out, but I recall 06's price falling fast. The only ads that could be considered false were from early versions of the game at E3. Genesis had lying pictures on the back of the very box.

Actually, this DOES use the Advance engine. It is just that the engine can not handle the bigger objects. This port would have been better if they have used a real ported version of the original game's engine, or at least shrunk the sprites and objects if they had to use the Advance engine.

From whoat I heared, the game is not a port. They remade it from scratch. Which begs the question, why they did not run in on the Sonic Advance engine. They could slap it together in a single week. Being able to use Tails, Knuckles and Amy in the orignal would be fun.

I heard that it actually IS running on the sonic advance engine, and that's exactly the problem. This isn't the way the game is supposed to work, and I doubt they would actually make it from scratch given the frequency at which it was ported normally (seriously, I had this game on an iPod nano at one point).

I view sonic 06 as a blessing in disguise. Why? Because it nearly drove Sega bankrupt resulting in the team getting fired and replaced with a more competent team fresh out of college. These are the individuals who brought sonic back from the brink, who brought us great games like colors, unleashed, generations. And I hope they will continue to bring us many more great games in the future. :)
