So let me know what you think about this little hack!

Did you say you used aluminum tape?

Yes I did

Would it be more efficient to just put some grease/vaseline on the rotating parts? I think the aluminium tape would eventually wear out/start to tare apart after some time and creates more drag.

I agree!

The thing to watch out for is where / how the legs join together below the tripod head. I thought I had some pretty good tripods. But they were all photo ones. This hack will increase the drag on the head above - but Newtons laws of motion; it puts an equal twist into the legs. If the connection to the legs have any slop in them; the panning motion will jerk at the start and end of the move. That is what I found when I put a fluid video head on top of one of my oldest photo tripods. This is the reason why video tripods usually have legs made of pairs of tubes. It "prevents" this slack as much as possible. So if you are going to do this with a normal photo tripod; you might need to do some work on the tops of the legs too. Strip them apart; clean them up; possibly apply tape there too?? Tighten up the screws. Any slack must be fixed. Me? I bought a video tripod with massive connections at the top of the legs.

I wonder how Teflon tape would work for this project.

What about the lubrication?

Hey there! When should I replace the tape and are there other alternatives to aluminium tape?

I tried this and was unable to reassemble the pan head after applying the tape.

this has nothing to do with an actual fluid head. Came here for a bit more sophisticated DIY project. This is lame. Clickbait.
