All those ingredients are fine - I would avoid the soy protein and just use black oil sunflower seeds. You can use about half of that volume of food that you feed them if you merely let it soak in water overnight at least. If you let it go longer like 18 hours, it will tend to start fermenting the grains which is a really beneficial asset to the food by making it more digestible for them. I generally have three 5gallon buckets that I scoop a portion of grain into and then let it soak with water. I pour it through a screen into a fourth bucket where I’ve removed most of the bucket lids center so that the ring of the lid holds the screen on the bucket. This way I can strain out the water. Don’t toss out that water because that water is full of nutrients as well and it’s like the sour dough bread starter to ferment your grains.
@pajamaninja21575 ай бұрын
I'm curious as too how i can use the water. i do the same fermenting process for my chickens and i usually throw out the water out. It'd be neat if i can put it to some use.
@jeremiahyeo58635 ай бұрын
@@pajamaninja2157 Just rerun that water back into your grain buckets rather than starting them with fresh water. It will take less time to begin fermentation. You can use this to lessen the time for soaking the grains.

Thats the problem with chicken owners. Chickens just need where to pick. Not need to much feed. Chickens are not friend of fat. Fat make so manny conditions sprout. Water belly, egg obstruction, low fertility. Just one time feed. And let them free and they do alone for what they need. And you save a lot of money.

My hens quit eating corn when it all became GMO full of pesticide. It used to be their favorite part of their scratch grains. My hens have never liked oats or wheat. Maybe the husk on the oats is too thick? They will eat whole barley, which looks very similar. If your hens aren't used to eating dry grains, try sprouting the grains (look up how-to on KZbin). That will stretch the food dollar and be more nutritious anyway. You need a whole grain that isn't cooked (no cracked corn, no rolled oats). Barley sprouts well

Can I ask why cracked corn vs whole corn? Whole corn retains more oils and nutrients then cracked, but I notice a lot of people feed cracked instead. Unsure if there is something I missed or if perhaps not so many people have thought about cracked corn loosing those nutrients vs whole corn.
@ThePasturedHomestead Жыл бұрын
I decided to feed cracked corn because its easier for the chickens to eat. I've seen chickens that will leave the whole corn alone. I'm sure if you soaked it long enough, they'd eat it though.

Please do some research into soy. There are other alternatives for protein other than soy. For humans, too much soy can be very detrimental. For women. It can affect their fertility and hormones negatively and for men it affects testosterone negatively. If you're giving your chicken soy that means it's getting into their eggs which y'all are eating so it's getting in your body as well.

This was debunked, soy contains a plant estrogen which is only called phytoestrogen because the chemical structure is similar to estrogen, in reality if plant estrogen affected humans then cow milk would be significantly worse since its an actual animal product and not just a plant compound that is only just *similar* to estrogen. Soy has been the stape diet for eastern cultures for thousands of years and i'm sure they dont have any fertility problems 😂 just look into what you eat seriously and dont read quack pseudoscience

The complaints about Soy and GMOs come from a good place but literally everything cultivated by humans has been genetically modified, its absolutely insane but a good example is the Banana or the Mustard Plant. But i'd imagine for chickens there is a better option than soy but if thats all you have Soy should be fine, its been a staple in several cultures for thousands of years and hasnt caused any problems, dont fall for the fear mongering about GMO and Soy, if you sre truly concerned you should look into how your food is made and processed, how exactly was it genetically modified. Thats what really helps ❤ ❤ ❤ wonderful video and cute chickens!

Great point of view! I’m there with you. Not everyone has the ability to feed organic or non gmo. I’m not worried about gmos myself, as I am worried about the things that are sprayed on our food.
