Thank you so much for sharing and helping to understand how to use the 50/50 lye solution and the break down of substituting some of the lye with another liquid. Than you! ❤

I was getting so confused by people using odd numbers and bizarre ways to masterbatch at a certain concentration. This was the perfect description on the process that I needed. Thank you ♥️

Finally some gives a number measurement. Been looking all night long. Some recipes just say add you lye water without giving detailed instructions on measurement.

You’re only doubling it because it is two lbs correct? If it was three lbs, then you would triple the lye number - and then for the remaining water, you would still subtract the water amount (not tripled or tripled?) from the tripled lye number?

wanda green wanda green Hi! Thanks for the question. Let’s discuss the “2”. Think of it this way: Since our solution is 50/50...we only have 50% or half ...right...of each additive (lye and water).... we can also say or write the understanding this way: we have 1/2 of each...THE 2 IS NOW INTRODUCED....it symbolizes the 1/2....So, because 1/2 plus 1/2 equals 1 whole...1 complete portion of liquid needed to create soap...we need to figure out the missing 1/2 of our recipe. Our solution is only 50% ...it’s not 100% complete...based on whatever recipe you use...the solution is only 1/2 complete when you pour from your batched solution, we have to complete it by providing additional liquid to complete the solution...otherwise, if we neglect to do this, we could end up with a lye heavy soap, something that is dangerous to use on the skin, may waste product ...producing a crumbly bar of lye heavy end product....so in conclusion, when we double ...it’s so that we start off with the correct amount of lye...this portion is poured and set aside for use in your recipe...the water called for in your recipe is not what you just poured out...it’s only a portion of it...we have to do the simple math to determine what amount is still needed...you only poured out 100% of the the lye called for (when I mention double)...Determining the water requires us to subtract the amount of lye weight from the total water weight to determine the amount of additional liquid needed...because there is only a portion of water in our poured solution.

Please show how to use the 4.54 once you come up with that amount. How do you pour ( measure) it for use in your recipe? Do you just measure 4.54 of your 50/50 water/lye solution and then measure 2.34 of your remaining liquid?

This sounds really easy till you get to the water =lye in gram's how do you measure in cups? And you are very informative thanks for sharing.
@armpitsalad
@armpitsalad 3 жыл бұрын
1ounce = 28grams. You don't want to use random cups as they can carry various ounce amounts.

It's still complicated for me I have learned that if I am taking 400g of master batch I should take 15% of lye that will be 60g and 60g water .. is this correct

What’s your cold process soap recipe? It depends on the recipe to be certain...he masterbatch is a 50/50 solution and you need an additional 50% of liquid/water or consider a water discount.

With this 50:50 lye water ratio, what quantity of oil will be OK to produce with this solution

Hi Kadijah! It depends different factors. 1st your soap mold. How many ounces of soap can your mold make? One you have that amount in ounces, you can formulate your recipe. In this video, the sample recipe is for 1 pound or 16 ounces of soap. I use Soap Calc to build recipes. It’s a free online soaping calculator. But first you will want to know how many ounces your molds will hold and then work from there….let me know if this helps. There’s a video on the channel that shows you how to do just this….it will help, take a look.

keeping your lye solution in a fridge is a preference or necessary?

Hi! It’s a preference. It produces great results when soaping. I find this also makes making whipped soap or cupcake soaps a more pleasant experience.
