Let's Paint Mud and Earth Effects On a German Tiger (RFM 1/35)

Hey folks! Today we are adding earth effects to this German kitty to finish this build off in muddy fashion! We will use oil paints along with some texturing to create realistic mud.

Migs gun metal pigment does a great job on the tracks where the road wheels polish the track.

Thanks! I do have that pigment. I'll have to give that a try. I've seen graphite used as well.

Hi mate I’ve been watching your build videos and I’m pretty impressed with your work. I really think that you can’t beat a dirty tank, but some people seem to go over the top with their weathering techniques. Considering the build date, and the life span of most AFVs in the field, most of the processes are a little bit over the top with the rust effects and paint fading! I’ve worked on a lot of heavy commercial, construction vehicles and rail rolling stock over 45+ years and I can assure you that some people really need to do more research and homework b4 they try to emulate what they think is the norm, especially exhausts! Shit just doesn’t happen like most guys think. In Australia on the west coast we have a lot of paint fading, but the temperatures we get here are anywhere from 30-50c Celsius during our summer months, but I somehow doubt that NE Europe or the Russian front would ever get close! Great work though Dave, and really appreciate you sharing your build videos! Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 ❤😊

Thank you! I appreciate it! I agree that paint chipping and fading can be a bit overdone unless you're building an abandoned tank diorama of course. I think the hairspray chipping on this Tiger was the most realistic and in scale that I've been able to achieve yet. The mud effects are always so much fun and I'm drawing on my experience in construction and off-road driving to bring it to life on this tank and many more to come. Thanks again. Cheers!

Thanks. That's a fair assessment on the bushes. Was more of a concept to start. I'll look at swapping them out for the diorama.
