In the case of correction you use the closest isogenic line for that particular part of flight...ie for departure use 11:30....as you progress you use the next isogenic line closest ...hope that clears it up

I think the mag heading that you calculated was maybe incorrect. When you look at sky vector the indication on the map is indeed the magnetic heading you have to fly because sky vector already has calculated wca, var etc already. To confirm look at the nav log.

MSFS has had the same issues for decades. I've used several versions since the 90's and the messed up weather/winds and ATC, with their "expedite ascent/descent" crap has always been like that. They just made some prettier graphics, but left all the programming the same.
