Aoife, I think you're likely to enjoy the game even more after the tutorial with the added dynamic of higher level areas, proper open world, better weapons, guest characters & side quests etc. The strict narrative of the tutorial makes the controls feel clunkier than they are. In the larger world the issues, though present, are less noticeable

Need to do a late to the Party for Black Flag. Sailing the ship & singing shanties is amazing fun.
@granthor88736 жыл бұрын
My mate who's just started playing it took some real persuading to stick with it. Getting to "drive" your own boat and having free reign over where you go doesn't happen until surprisingly far into the game - given LTTP videos always seem to involve the first hour or so, I worry they might not see the best bit of it if they stick with the standard format?

I must be one of the few who actually likes the present day stuff. It's the thread that ties the series together. The whole reason why they're looking at the past lives in the Animus is to find Pieces of Eden for the war between the Assassins and the Templar Order in the present day. It's also really frustrating that the Juno storyline got completely removed and shoved in a comic. Not a fan of how the series has changed recently. Don't get me started on Odyssey and the multiple endings. How does a historical event have multiple endings?!?
@Seraphiel1236 жыл бұрын
Wait, they resolved the Juno story arc in a comic?! Fuck sake, I had been wondering what happened with that and why it hadn't ever been referenced again in the later games!

Perhaps they meant that you have the option of playing a woman throughout a whole main series game? Unlike Syndicate where Evie shares the role of main character, and Liberation which isn't part of the main series. Could also be that they hecked up.

Woodthorn It’s possible, and (truthfully) likely that’s what they meant, but the wording isn’t entirely clear. And honestly, I wouldn’t put it past them to make that mistake. It’s Ubisoft, after all.

This is my personal favourite Assassin's Creed. I wish they had made more set in the Victorian period before they changed genres. I'm not a fan of the new direction that Origin's has taken the franchise. It plays like a game that has added a few Assassin's Creed elements, rather than an Assassin's Creed game with added elements. I literally went back to playing Syndicate (which I've spent over 100 hours in and still not finished.) after pottering around on the lake and visiting the Pyramids for a bit. It's a great game, but not something that I want to play when I think of playing Assassin's Creed. You should definitely play Black Flag as a Late to the Party, if only for Johnny's singing of the shanties and nautical titbits.

The Unity-Syndicate phase of AC in many ways I think came the closest to realising the potential and vision of Assassin's Creed. The cities were dense and well designed, the parkour was the best it's been, they had a dedicated stealth mode, the combat was a good balance of challenging and slick (especially Unity) and the assassination missions were open and challenging to pull off smoothly. Not without their problems certainly, and Unity on release was unacceptable, but underappreciated nonetheless.
@mashaelalanzi96076 жыл бұрын
I’ve always thought that! Glad someone agrees. I’m kinda sad to see AC stray off and feel different. Wish they’d put it on hold until they figure it out.

While I did enjoy Syndicate, I was really bothered by the fact that you could switch between Evie's and Jacobs memory, because this requires the existance of a descendant with both Evie's AND Jacobs DNA, which would imply that Evie and Jacob had children together (eww). :(
@TheEvilAspirin6 жыл бұрын
Mr.Chad Not necessarily. The descendant could be someone born say 4 generations later, who had Evie as a great great grandmother on their mum's side of the family and Jacob as a great great grandfather on their dad's side of the family. That'll allow the family line to converge back again to have them as common ancestors.
@crazymelodies22666 жыл бұрын
It doesn't necessarily imply that Evie and Jacob had children together, it could have been some distant related cousins who had children together, it happens. My parents didn't even realise that they were distant cousins until the wedding when they realised that there were some family members that they both knew.
@darkjackel86086 жыл бұрын
Well, or maybe they pulled a Jurassic Park, and used frog genetic materials to splice in Jacob's memories. 😝
@kimnicaro34966 жыл бұрын
From what I remember, you're not actually using a single individual's DNA in Syndicate, you're using a database of multiple people's genomes. So all that means is that both Jacob and Evie had descendants, not that those descendants are the same.

I really enjoyed the gameplay of Unity (I played it quite early after release, but I was lucky and hardly ran into any bugs), but I never really found Arno particularly engaging as a player character, and I felt that most of the story was rather boring. If a cutscene half way through the game dramatically zooms in on the bad guy you've been chasing for three missions and your primary reaction is "wait, who was that again?", the game failed at telling its story. That said, the gameplay is great, and Paris is just amazing.
@al3j4ndro116 жыл бұрын
It’s nothing to write home about. The combat is way worse and slow, the story is just a mess and everyone has English accents for some reason. The streets are littered with people and the buildings are tall af it’s a chore to get around anywhere. The game is just flawed to the core even with the bugs fixed it’s just mediocre at best.
@josha59336 жыл бұрын
al3j4ndro11 counter argument: combat feels methodical and is beautifully animated, crowded streets encourage parkour which is the best system in the series
@TheEgregious16 жыл бұрын
I'm not certain either of you have ever been in an actual, "someone is trying to seriously end your life and you need to stop them or you might very well die" type situation, but I would assume not based on your criticisms of how much it was taking to bring enemies down. Generally, it takes quite a bit to bring someone with even a small amount of experience down in a regular scrap where it's more roughhousing than anything, it takes CONSIDERABLY more when you're actively trying to hurt someone enough that they are physically are unable to retaliate, and I would assume it takes even more to actually beat someone to death. You're skeptical that 6 punches and a couple knees are really necessary? Maybe in some cases it is, but as a rule, that won't stop someone who's committed to hurting you. I mean, if you could kill someone in 7-8 punches we'd have a LOT more crimes of passion across the world. Also, while some of Jacob and Evie's finishers are SUPER excessive, there were some that Johnny was ragging on that were as simple as a hit to the head and then a throat cut. What's excessive about that? Again, these are people trying to kill you. You can't leave them subdued to get up later and bring friends or hamstring you when you're engaging someone else, and hitting someone with what is essentially a big stick 6 times or so isn't going to finish the job permanently most of the time. The majority of Jacob and Evie's finishers are a couple hits on a disoriented enemy and then a coup de grace to actually finish the job, which is exactly what you would do in the situation.
@nightcatarts6 жыл бұрын
There's a frickin' sword cane! If you start with a stab or slash with one of those, all the extra punches probably shouldn't be necessary except to remind them to fall down.
@TheEgregious16 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and that's why from stealth it only takes 1-2 slashes to kill. But when someone sees that you have a weapon they typically prioritize defending against it above pretty much all else. You think one slash or stab in the middle of the fight is gonna bring someone down, just like that? Likely not, people regularly survive stabbings long enough to get help or fight back, which was a key part of comment. You can't stab someone once or twice in a fight and then decide, "Yeah, he's PROBABLY not a threat anymore". The finishers do exactly what they sound like: finish the job. Otherwise you're in a fight, you get a good stab to the abdomen and the guy goes down and eventually dies. Does he die immediately? Very good chance that he doesn't. He'll die eventually, sure, but if you decide he's not worth your trouble and leave him he's got time to alert his friends, or potentially attack you when your back is turned.
