This game is from 1981, yet necessitates maintaining the flight of the plane, managing the flight mission from the map, goes to dogfights to combat German planes, includes the scrolling landscape to the bombing of the target...all the while with the first ever voice synth...ease back on the less-than-modern graphics. Incredible realism, incredibly multifaceted for ANY 20th century game.

The white "A" looking symbols represented Anti-Aircraft weapons... they where the ones sending up all the flack you encountered on your missions.

After all this time, there are still aspects of this game that I am not sure of. Naturally, if I'd read the instructions or Googled, it would make more sense. In fact, I''m pretty sure the 200 Bomb "Trick" was printed in the instructions.

The Mighty 8th Air Force over Germany. This was a game, a history lesson and and adventure rolled into one. I have always been a WW 2 buff and this game is one of the greatest ever programmed. I would like to see a reboot of this as a 52 year old first generation video gamer.

I used to have this way back when it came out. Played it a lot. Your major mistake is switching between screens at the wrong time. If you are nearing your target, stay on bombardiers view, and you won’t overshoot your bomb run. You can also slow down your airspeed for better accuracy and then speed up again to throw off flak after your run is over.

I usually do better when playing this game, I was a bit rusty. I too grew up on this game, back when talking games were a novelty. Sometime in the future I will be recording this game again, except with improved video and audio equipment. So, please, check back from time to time for updates.

played this to death when i was a kid with my cousin. He flew and was 3 & 6 gunner, I was bombardier and 12 & 6 gunner. Craziest thing that happened to us was when we were on a bombing raid deep in Germany. We were shot to help lost all the gunners and were low on fuel. Only thing left for us to do was either crash or land the plane. he managed to land the plane lol. First and only time. We eventually had to restart because we were finally out of gas and couldn't manage to take off and fly again. Damnest thing lol. i can still hear that intellivoice talking lol and we still throw phrases at each other even to this day lol. Memories...

The only frustrating part is that the hand controller had very specific commands. That is hard to duplicate on another style controller. I love the game play on this!

The plane had a maximum weight limit. So the number of bombs you carried determined the amount of fuel you could have. The more bombs meant a shorter attack range. And the high value targets were furthest away.

As far as Intellivision games goes, this one is quite involved. Games would take place in only one screen, which is typical for the time; however, as you can see, this one uses more. Perhaps this game should get an HD remake. ;)

Thanks for letting me know, the instructions don't mention them. Interesting note, although the voice of B-17 Bomber is not named, it's supposed to be a member of the crew. My theory is that he's Slim Pickens' character, Maj. 'King' Kong, from the movie Dr. Strangelove. If you're not familiar, look it up, he shares the same distinct southern drawl.

There's going to be an updated/remade version coming out for a new Intellivision system due to be released in 2021.

Hi, I made a table top arcade game out of plywood and a 13 inch TV facing up. The first system has to be used because it will be turned on. And when you plug in system you want game system, voice box, tv, and light under Marquee to come on all at once. An older tv must be used that when turned on will come on automatically when plugged in. 1/4 inch custom cut to size glass goes over the tv hole and light hole. Trimming is used to hold glass on top. Under glass I put a real map of Europe. Along with basic instructions and a blow up of the game box title for over the light hole. Large sub woofer speaker was put In cabinet and front door is what.holds both controllers. Wheels are on bottom of cabinet and speaker button to turn on or off the heavy bomber sound. The joysick attachment was added. In cabinet also is power cord and extention cord. And that's how you make a B17 Bomber table top arcade game.

"Uh-oh... That was NOT the target!" was not spoken, sadly. "Mayday!" is another? Flight appears to be going slower due to the amount of bombs (weight) carried. Misspoke in video, meant to say that I used the trick all the time, but would often forget if I had to press "Preview" or "Pilot". Answer: Press "Pilot" to obtain 200 bombs!

YesterdaysMoose My apologies if I mumble or if it is hard to hear what I am saying. Judging the volume of my voice can be a challenge, and especially when the game sounds are turned up as loud as they are. I'll keep that in mind next time.

There's a new Intellivision coming out. Announcement will be October 20, 2018 at Portland Retro Gaming Expo.... And yes, the device will be able to play the old games, including B-17 Bomber. Hand controller will be designed specifically to work well on games like this.

"Intellivision Lives!" was a collection of Intellivision games released for PS2 (PlayStation 2) which includes B-17 Bomber, that is the version I am playing.
