They were short on time, so Meehan invented an all powerful sword to skip the fight. Strahd is in actuality a very powerful vampire

@@gaildahlas A wooden stake wouldn't actually kill him. Only paralyze him. Of course, paralyzed, the party will then be able to cut his head off, therefore killing him, but point is, the sword was overkill. I suspect Strahd was nerfed, too. Either by Meehan or D&D 5e. In 3.5e, I have a level 1 vampire monk (ECL 8) with 30 AC. Some of that AC is due to monk abilities and magic armor, but in its most basic, a vampire had a +6 bonus to AC from natural armor, plus a +4 bonus to dexterity, so there's no way Strahd would've had an AC of 16 in 3.5e. Minimum 18 AC for an unarmored vampire, which Strahd, as an ancient vampire count, would not be. He would definitely have some sort of magic item that would buff his AC. But that's 3.5e. It was more focused on the challenge of battle that 5e seems to be, or maybe it's the DMs... *shrug*

@@mar_speedman Ah. Now I get it. Would be hilarious if the Dungeobreakers head over to Ravenloft and try to pull the same thing on the real Strahd. It will probably will end with a furious, piss covered Strahd wiping the whole group.
