So it seems that the Engine II for the submarine is supposed to reduce visibility, but as you can see in the video it's not doing that. And regarding the communist faction issue, if we do end up having multiple communist factions then I can simply fix it with a modded event if necessary.
@Trifler5008 күн бұрын
Yeah. It appears the sub Engine II is bugged. Not sure if it's just the UI or if it actually doesn't work. Hopefully they'll get it fixed. Did you report it?

The surface raiding feature is great for the deep oceans where destroyers don't have range and hence, enemy fleets are not all that dangerous for you. For Germany it is STRONGLY designed to be used in conjunction with the Panzerschiff class of heavy cruisers. You start with The Deutschland, Admiral Hipper and the flagship, Admiral Scheer. They are a special class of heavy cruiser that have a range of 7,500km which is insane, so they are great for raiding the deep oceans of the Atlantic. From my experience with them, they absolutely destroy convoys, especially since you can add radar and floatplanes to them quite easily. I love doing this in my Germany runs!

So you were raiding without the light cruisers, as I assume they couldn't reach? How well did they hold up once the American or British fleets engaged you? Did they get away quick enough without receiving significant damage?
@toastedsnow79827 күн бұрын
For surface raiding, it works (sort of), but from an efficiency standpoint, subs are just far superior. To be reasonably effective, surface raiders need speed, high detection, and good light attack, which means that they do need a decent amount of tech investment. At least for me, if I'm ever in a situation where I'm focusing on navy research, I'm building a fleet anyway (and have the industry to support doing so), so why have surface raiders? Fun from a roleplay perspective, though. And there is something to be said for those moments when your CA/BC takes out a convoy with every other shot. You do need to micro them a bit more, though, and regularly move them around because, unlike subs, retreating isn't nearly as easy.
@PraetorianHiJynx6 күн бұрын
Yeah I've used surface raiders before and they were okay, but I always escorted them with light cruisers. I was curious if anyone had done it without escorts. For me, surface raiding is when I don't intend to invest in my fleet to gain naval supremacy, but I want to find a use for the capital ships that the country starts with. So I agree with you, if I'm going to invest in the surface fleet then might as well create a real one and leave the raiding to subs.
@toastedsnow79825 күн бұрын
@@PraetorianHiJynx Ah, slightly misunderstood your inquiry, then. To directly answer, yes, I've done exclusively capital raiders a few times, but it has always been CA/BCs (no BBs) and only as Germany. My experience was that they rapidly become nonviable if you're not also modernizing them - basically, you need to maintain an equal tech level with opposing naval bombers. Your opponent is fielding 1940 planes? You need 1940 hulls (or, at least, guns) to stay viable. As for comp, solo capitals were terrible, in my experience - even with the dedicated spirit. The issue isn't the fleet retreat chance (though that's also pretty terrible), but the damage efficiency. The capital ships are just complete overkill against convoys. The best setup I found was a single capital with 3-4 escort lights. The lights took care of the convoy itself (and did ASW), and the capital was there to threaten escorts (usually DE/CLs) and bristle with AA. And in terms of sea zones, I found the Indian Ocean - Maldives, Arabian Sea, Bay of Bengal, Seychelles - to be the best place for them. Frankly, though, I've found more value in the Panzerschiffe as AA boats

I've only tried using Surface Raiders as a minor nation before. It kind of simulates hit-and-run tactics. It seems to help reduce your losses if you're the inferior force. I focused on torpedoes, the idea being to launch and run. Never tried the solo raiding capital ships part though.
@PraetorianHiJynx6 күн бұрын
Yeah I've used surface raiders in some past campaigns, but I've never tried the solo capital ships yet.

Did you use the surface raiders without any screens? If so, how well did they hold up when the British or American fleet arrived? Could they retreat before getting destroyed?
@klioblue97716 күн бұрын
@@PraetorianHiJynx I use them in far sides of the oceans, gap between S America and Africa, around horn of africa, east caraibbien, and around madagaskar, only single CA/BC in the fleet, thy can destroy convoy escorts (10 enemy destroyers) without issues. Most of UK/US main fleets doesnt operate that far. Tried use them closer to US/UK mainlands thy potenitally can outrun battleships but if run into carriers then thy are dead in the water. It is very funny way to harras allied transport fleets :)

@7:42 This event, if you take the option that costs political power, Austria gets a new advisor that is pro Germany Unification that they can not remove, and he reduces the number of divisions you need to do Anschluss. So, if you are going the Anschluss route, that is what you want to do.
@PraetorianHiJynx6 күн бұрын
Well as the event states, Austria has to accept it. Consider what we set Austria to, they'll most likely refuse it just as they have refused every other event we did. So at this point we're just throwing away political power.

I'm not exactly opposed to changing leaders (though we would lose all the really good bonuses we're currently getting from Hitler), but I have to agree with the above comment, I'm not sure how changing leaders makes things less boring.
