Thanks for this, getting (two of) the kickstarter box when it comes out, so this is a lot of help. By the way, the reason they're both called hunters (well, jaeger and hunter) to my knowledge is due to the jager being based on stolen plans to the hunter.

Thanks for doing Heavy Gear... one of my friends helps write Heavy Gear and Jovian Chronicles ... I love seeing their work... plus I love heavy gear... I want to get back into it.... but a you have hit my wallet by showing me This is Not A Test and Frostgrave ... I should prob wait a bit until I paint all the bloody figs and terrain I have now :)

+john haynie Well the new Terra Nova starter is all plastic multipart gears. I'm going to hold off for that before I go totally ham into HG again. Luckily I've still got a few dozen unpainted Gears to keep me busy. ;)

Hey there, Ash! Huge fan of you channel! I would like to suggest you try the Wyrd Wars skirmish game rules set in one of your Let's Play videos. It is very similar to Mordheim, but uses some more updated mechanics. The developers appreciate play testing, so your input will be invaluable.

Which would you recommend to a new player? I'm asking in terms of price, learning curve, materials, ect. I don't have any war gaming experience, I admittedly mainly want to get into it for customizing the models.

I am so glad you are covering this. I loved the show despite being so short lived and really wanted to get into the game, however, the miniatures were way to expensive...unless they are in CAD and not USD haha.

Oh man, my only exposure to HG are the 2 Activision PC games released in the late 90's (97 and 99 I recall) which made me want to draw gears all day long until my 20s lol, and the short lived TV CGI arena battle show (which was a let down but I was happy with anything Gear, would have been sooo much better if it followed an epic storyline like EXO Squad or various Gundam(s)). Never got into models or table top games of any kind, but it's great to see HG franchise living on. FYI, there is a Steam early access game called "Heavy Gear Assault" that's available right now but I'd wait until it improves. Unfortunately it's also just an arena battle game, no sp campaign. :(

The standard is these are not giant robots the pilot sits the chest until you go to the striders those get quote ‘giant’ robots and btw they are called Gears. Get it right I have been playing it came out.

+David Lara I couldn't wrap my brain around Battletech when I was a kid, so I have zero experience with it apart from the models. That said, if someone brought the new edition in I'd give it a go.

+Guerrilla Miniature Games (Ash Barker) The new Alpha Strike rules were purposefully done to be easier and faster to play. The games move pretty quick and there's not nearly as much to keep track of as there is in standard BattleTech.

So the next game won't be a new one but rather picking up on turn 4 with you and the new player? Do you think that the amount of tokens on the table is a good idea? I'd prefer if there was less random "stuff" on the table messing with the visual appeal of cool mini robots on terrain.

I'd love to play this on pc or tablet for 2 reasons 1 the mech are HORRIBLY expensive especially considering what theyr made from 2 I don't have anybody to play with lol
