Chelle: Is it like minesweeper? Chelle, an hour later: No, no, put a mark here, and a cross there... aha, and now we can mark over here -- see, that's an apple! Easy.

So apparently before Honor grabs any crucial evidence, she has a complete a picross puzzle before she can see what it is.

I think the point is that Honor can't find anything on her own, so she uses low tech imaging software to do it for her instead. She's like the people that spend their vacation seeing everything through the camera app on their smartphone, but with a terrible DPI.

Partial completion and Xs are a lot more useful than it seems at first, though you probably get that a lot so instead I'll give you an example of a pattern you can check The numbers are always in the same order in which they appear, so for example in 10:54 you can immediately complete the 2 and 4 in the second column because there is no way the two marked squares can be connected. Still, you're doing well and I'm sure the patterns will come more naturally to you over time, just figured I'd offer a bit of a hint. Also, using the red lines as a guideline is very useful, they highlight a 5x5 so it makes it a lot easier to draw long lines, at least I find it easier to go "oh this line only has a 6 and I marked a spot so I'll go ahead and fill up to red line plus one" And filling in the Xs at the end of every completed line would have saved you a bit of hazzle around 18:00, but that's more of a good practices kinda deal, so it's not all that important. Another good example of a partial fill pattern is at 32:08 , second column, since it only has one number, you can fill up to the red line, and mark X the top 4 squares since nothing else could be there... sorry if I'm giving you too much detail, I do love this kind of puzzle so I thought I should share things that helped me figure it out easier... what's that called, shortcut? Not sure, oh well.

Try to use more of the “x”s it makes the puzzles so much easier

It really does help out in a lot of segments - Wander seems to be intent on doing it in his head however which kinda works against him. XD

I mean, he finished the entire case before he posted the first video, so he's probably got everything figured out by now

X's are mostly useful for new players who are inexperienced with this style of game. High level players don't really need them. However, Wander's trying to jump into Hard mode without really mastering the basics first, so a few more X's would probably help him out a lot.

@@Rognik fortunately this game is kinda forgiving in that there's no penalty for guessing wrong and there's no bonus for a perfect play.

Rognik “High level players” lol When you’re doing 80x80+ picross, I don’t care how ‘high level’ you think you are, you’re gonna need to use x’s.

I can't follow what you're doing during the PicCross sections. You seem to be glancing at the numbers, drawing the shape of the object you think the game wants, then checking to see if it actually fits with the numbers? If that's what works for you, keep going. It make it entertaining to watch. And the game is great! Also, Betamax and VHS were both released between 1975 and 1977. *Betamax vs VHS* was the first *formats war,* and VHS won in the end mostly because of its adoption by the porn industry.

well playing the game as actually intended is better than wander is doing it. I hope he'll catch on soon, because I am getting slightly annoyed by him making these assumptions and not thinking logically, but I love this channel, so I'll keep watching. very interesting I didnt know that yet.

It’s definitely annoying; it’s the beginner’s technique. It’s much more fun and rewarding to logically deduce each square.

There is no guessing in this game. It just requires you to look at it from every angle constantly to find potential weak points to chip away at.

@@Jirodyne Hmm I don't have any experience with this game specifically, but I love tackling huge Picross puzzles. I'd have to agree with Wander. These puzzles always have some clue to find, whether it's a slim overlap you wouldn't have thought to try, or neglecting to X out a square. I'd say keep at it, but you say you refunded. There are some online versions if you ever want to consider this type of puzzle again. Conceptis has an awesome collection of logic/picture puzzles.

No, VHS won because it supported long play which ment people could tape an entire sports match in one go (with enough time left to start the recording a few minutes before a match and leave 30 minutes extra at the end to account for extra time). Betamax recording times just was to short. and Sony refused for a long time to implement a long play feature. This format war was decided long before pre recorded video tapes were a thing.

You may have already noticed but blocks of five are separated with a line. It’s surprisingly fun to see how others build shortcuts

I think I'm starting to understand why Wander dislikes backseat gaming so much. It's bad enough getting it from his audience, where it's just words on the screen. Getting it from Chelle, who he can't tune out, is really bad.

Her only option is to backseat or be totally silent. It's on me to make sure her input is heard.
